What's the rules on things like traps, grenades, shotgun blank tripwires etc ? The SAS contingent would like to fortify their encampment a little if it's at all possible and maybe lay a few surprises. We have a range of things that go "BANG" but I'm not sure what the CiA standard is.

A variety have been used in games but the organisers and people that run the sites have the final say.

You will see shoe mines on here if you do a search.

The thing with shotgun blank mines is the problem of people trying to disarm them and not knowing how to do it safely.
I have made my own in the past with 9mm blanks and used them in games but not with CIA.

Don't worry, the SAS troop will be fully briefed and given proper orders on the day. It never does any harm to bring extra "toys", as they may be useful.

Real SAS bases were not actually fortified. In fact, the security on many of them was shocking! They were meant to be temporary, so there was not really time to do much. Also, with civvies about, it probably wouldn't have been a good idea to booby trap or mine an area!

Although I expect it will be down to the site owners and the guys running the game, for all sorts of reasons from fire hazard in the summer heat or the dreaded H&S, to make the decision on pyros and mines, I would have thought that such a thing as a static base that the Germans, would have some of the approaches mined to guide any sneaky SAS / Jeds into our fixed fields of fire!
(and I think we've got all the schu mines  )

What? for every bit of string, we've got a bit of string? you need one trip mine and five bits of string, if the first four dont blow, the last is a surprise, and if the first one blows the next four you'll treat with respect. Or you string up and trip mine an area and the enemy go through a completely different route, or the one trip mine that is set, doesn;t go off just because of sod's law :)

Hand-fired charges with the operator eyes-on is a much safer option. Trip mines are indiscriminate - you need close co-operation with your team to avoid self-destruction and care to avoid players crawling into them.

I like the idea Josh - I'm sure the opportunity for an SAS ambush will arise  :good:

I have 2 Airsoft Claymores if anybody can come up with an idea on how to disguise then to look like a WW2 mine, they are wireless command activated.

"Will you stop talking about the war!!"
"What, you started it!"
"We did NOT start it!"
"Yes you did, you invaded Poland..."

Guys, let the organisers worry about pyro's, etc, please. All you need to worry about is turning up, getting (and staying) in character and having fun.

Message recieved and understood.
I just think its a bit of banter and excitment, I for one, am really looking forward to this event. The 24 hour element really requires one to fine tune one's kit. It's a matter of the age old dilemma of "Do I take that bit of kit or not?"
From what I understand of Heide's post, it's not necessary to bring all the mines and trip wires etc, but it's so frustrating when you're in game lacking a piece of kit, you have at home. However it is a fine balance betwen that and what you are prepared to lug about for 24hours on the off chance that you might use it.

Absolutely right. That's the "dilemma" facing everyone! For once, noone will have 3 bags full of kit and 4 spare guns! Many will find it liberating, including me. Trimming your kit down to the exact amount you need can be a real challenge. If it's a "might need", it's probably not going to be of use.

I'm certainly not trying to dampen anyone's enthusiasm, just trying to channel it a bit more constructively, as the CiA team will organise the static and "show" pyro's. Players can feel free to bomb up with smokes and grenades to their hearts' content! :good:
