Suggestion for belt fed German mg in regard to ammo.
Anyone may carry ammo for mg42 etc, however to do so they must carry a bullet belt. Cheap ones are avail' until a closer repro could be found.
This means it's easy to know who has spare ammo for the support weapon.
Also heavy and a pain in the bum.
Each belt could come with 300-500 rounds. If you hand the ammo over you also hand the nasty heavy thing as well. These could be carried with kit or thrown in crates. Could make ammo supply fun!

It sgoing to work like this.
Riflemen and smg guys carry 300 rounds on them
The LMGs have 1000.
However only 500 are on the gunner the rest are carried in 100 round bags by the rest of the group. In a uk section everyones bren pouches would carry 2 mags for the bren so lugging a bren box about is a bit weird.
