I would think that might be the website catering for modern customers who want their actual religion/lack of it on their dog tags.
I wish I could remember where the heck I was reading on that now...(glances at book shelf for a second and says 'screw that' in my head.)
I think being a christian country in the 1940s it was the default setting. I cant see the army with its church parades etc at the time giving you an easy option of being atheist.
I'm a Taoist and mine are stamped B for Buddhist as the army didnt recognise offshoots.

im am a buddhist but i dont mind having c of e, or CE on mine. christ was pretty cool, from what i have read about him from the bible.

does list the possible religions found on ID discs. Wartime abbrevation was COFE modern tags have CE.
All people in England and Wales are by default COFE unless you opt out. It is what being an established church means. Good in that your local church is obliged to provide the offices of baptism, weddings and funerals to you. Bad if they start going all fundamentalist again and burning you at the stake if you refuse to go to church or profess another faith. See reign of Henry VIII and QE I.
What where the other religions listed? Out of interest.
And I assume this applies just to British soldiers, not those from the rest of the British Empire.

I have my Grandaddy's originals ( albeit WW1) but they are marked "P" for protestant, but there again that was probably commonplace in Scotland.

Not yet a recognised member of PBI (can't do the 'basic' loadout - as I've no Denison but have got everything for Hallamshires - and thus have not been to any of the training days or battles), but I'd hate to miss out on this great offer to forward my Brit kit, especially for when a time comes that I have a high enough level of kit to 'join in' with PBI. Is that okay? If so, I'll post details up.
