was thinking in the rear of the receiver behind the mechbox. should be to hard to fit at least a mini in there though if you could get a custom made you maybe able to fit a smaller large in.

though as I said its now looking almost as much work as a sten now so may just do that as stens can be used with all the impressions

just had a look at the m14 again. Im not convinced it'll work anymore. with the motor sticking out the back the box will be to far forward for the mag well to be in the right place i think

Perhaps a famas or army L85 box may well be the way to go now. unless we want to make mk5's which you can use a ak or possibly mp5 gearbox for.

Sterling project on Arnies ........

http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/i ... =24948&hl=

Interesting adaptation of the hop unit :o

Could be the way to go though, as the actual hop effect is less important (at the projected range of use) than getting the damned bb's to feed smoothly in the first place !?

eh chopping a AK unit should be fairly simple that way you have the option for mid to long range if you want

out of curiosity was the de lisle carbine used by any of our planned units other than commando? pretty sure I can knock one up reasonably cheaply and will look pretty close to the real deal however if it was only commandos who used em not much point as I need something to cover most of our units first

Thats a damn good project for the Patchett, the tube was a bit big though, at 2"(50mm) it looks a bit bulbous, although its good for storing the battery. The original was 1.5",about 37mm. But as long as it works what the hell :D

With regard to triggers the best aeg trigger for doing conversions (if you can get one) is the thompson. Its just an on/off switch with a trigger stuck on the front of it. You can then wire it in between the battery and the gearbox motor and you don't have to worry about making any mechanical linkages fit.

Not a lot of them made at all to be fair, i'm pretty sure its commandos and sas and soe stuff.

If you want something for all, cant go wrong with a sten!

A lot of useful info on here (Sten mkV project) and some good pics in his gallery ..........

http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/i ... 17046&st=0

I'm thinking that if one went the mkV route, with an AK g/box, that an AK wood full stock and pistol grip wouldn't look too out of place ??
(I say this from the position of having a spare v3 g/box and rather nice AK wood kit doing nothing at present ;) )

Although I prefer the look of the mk2/3, having the full stock would obviously make battery changing easier then fiddling a stick battery into/out of the T-stock and would save some fab'ing :?

Just need to work out how to make a mag well with a firm enough fix not to cause mis-feeds ..........

Hi, I am just looking into ww2 airsofting from general skirmishing and milsim and have been a little disapointed to find the lack of reasonably priced British weapons.

I think I have a fairly easy sten mk2 or 3 idea that could be easily built but it needs donor parts and a bit of special machining on some parts plus welding.

My question, as you have been trying to do this for some time it seems, are has anyone found a straight gearbox and motor assembly available new cheaply (M14, FAMAS, FN2000 etc)?

The machining bit is the hop and feed chute which can be easily made including an adjustable hop and barrel holder out of solid bar.

If I can get a supply of complete gearboxes, I could knock up a prototype and then work out how much a kit could be made for.

If the gearboxes are available, next would be a Bren!

I am not aiming for a real copy (dimensions would be different and cocking handles either missing or non functioning) as there is not enough room in the real dimensions for all that and for little benefit. After all, if you want a real sten, get a deact.

Anyway, if anybody has anyleads, please let me know.

Warren's Sten MkVs use AK gearboxes in exactly the way described...

They look slightly wrong, but are perfectly fine.

The problem you'll have with doing that with a "proper" mag rather than the box and internal mag that warren uses is that the nozzle will be way too far back in the body. Nowhere near the mag housing.

This has been fixed in one mod I've heard of by making a nozzle extension, but this proved very unreliable and open to misfires, jams and loss of power.

There has been some success with using M14 gearboxes I understand.

See this thread for a successful custom Sten using a rather unconventional gearbox:

I'm sure I've read somewhere that only a few hundred (if that) deLisles were made-so rocking horse would be an apt description of their provision to units. I would imagine only users being SOE, Small Scale Raiding Force (62Cdo), 30 Assault Unit and others of that ilk-although 'line' commandos apparently also had them. Now if you wanted a cool 'nasty' device whatsabout a Vickers K Gun? 950rpm anyone????? That'd get Fritz running!!!!

I heard their were closer to 200, and about the same number "Folding Stocked" with what looks very like a Pratchet folding stock. as an aside, Im planning to get a repro live firer from the states imported and de-activated from a sec 5 dealer i know, as far as i know it would be the only one in private hands in the uk.

bit strange that as I can remember reading an article in Gun Mart about a commercially available repro de Lisle available HERE made in UK on sec 5 using a variety of calibres! Date of article would be a good 12 months plus ago....howsabout a welrod??? Andy Kirkham from Sheffield (excellent smith btw) makes some SOE kit, also does plain drab windproofs and various other toys. SOE kit includes hat pin dagger, 3 different models of FS knives (very tasty these), tyre slasher etc etc....
