I think we're all arguing ot agree on this one . We know, and all have a very clear idea of what our events will look ,feel and play like , which is part of the reason we work together so well - we have a clear view of what a CiA event is all about .
We have taken the time to distill a rule pack , both game and kit which we feel is WWII airsofting .
It's not themed , it;s not a skirmish in silly kit, it's not open day , it's not milsim , it's not reenactment and it certainly is not Larp , although our blend includes bits from all those gaming styles. We also keep a healthy eye on how much enjoyment the players will get from the game, and making sure they have a good game too .
Where I think we are coming ot is "do we want to use Gunmans site for a November CiA game or not ?" I think us co organising will just lead ot frustration on both sides and possibly weakenening our brand of events with our very loyal bunch of regulars, who would be expecting another BotB /Arnhem and get a Larpy bunch of crud in mid winter
We should go ahead with the meeting on the 24th , and possible a site recce, but at the moment my thought is if we don't have complete control over the event then it's not one for us , and my suspicision is that Josh is all about cashing in rather than WWII reenactment airsoft .
Thats my feeling exaclty
we spoke about a CiA 'brand'
I'd like a player coming to any event with out name on it to know they will get.
1) A strong scenario based on a battle (real of 'what if) and not just a normal days open day play
2) The CIA rules set, consistent rules that don't have to be learnt a new each weekend
3) The CiA counts as system so they know that if they have made the effort so wil others and they wont be up against 'Brits' in vietnam jungle bdus when they put the time and effort in to get passable kit
4) A event free of any political bias or agenda
5) Value for money.
After all that i dont mind.
I think we have a good thing going with 'loaning ' sites and running it ourselves. I'd like to keep it that way. I dont mind sharing some of the scenario /resources wiht a site but i'm incredibly wary about changing the rules.
As a team we've jointly shot down many a mad and great idea that would have been ace because in reality it would have been too complicated, we've always said KISS... a first glance at the rule set leaves me feeling its a lot for player to remember and is bound to lead to arguments... especially the hits rules where regulars end up having five lives !!
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Have you noticed how enthusiastic players are already at the published details of the November game?
I am too - it could be fantastic and all the better for having our input whether it turns out to be a joint venture or just mutual co-operation.
I don't have the least problem with people cashing in, nothing like a profit to motivate. Josh is experienced in large scale events and it doesn't phase him. It would be fantastic if another 100 players were introduced to WW2 airsoft on the back of this (and the other two events). The benefits to us (WW2 community) are there. I am as cautious as the rest of you but it would be a real shame to let an opportunity like this pass us by because of an aloofness or an attitude of we know best, we have been doing it for much less than a year!
I don't see how we can expect 'full control' over this event - it isn't our cash that's at risk and we don't want to organise a large game. What we can do is influence, encourage, and promote a game that we want to play and upholds as far as is possible the ideals we have been striving for...
Yup... agreed CW... but if it looks like tosh I'm sure as hell not recommending it!
Warren's games might be tosh but we are are still promoting them in the wider interests of WW2 airsoft.
Agreed, putting a CIA branding on the Nov game though is a completely different matter - up to us to win friends and influence people!
Definately endorse the KISS aspect Gadge, have LARPers a differnt sort of mental capacity to airsofters? Hell, most airsoft rules have me confused!!
Thats it... CW... we can go and play if we want... but its not a CiA game (or even "in association with CiA") if its not up to our "standards"...
For instance I wouldn't mark the KGB game as a CiA one as it just wasn't up to scratch!
I suspect SYA's game won't be either, but I have learned a fair amount about why the KGB game didn't make it and will be putting my thoughts to Shaun about it when I see him.
Well larp is incredibly complicated especially fantasy /vampire ones.
Lots of carrying cards around and calling numbers for damage when you hit people etc.
Larping has its own version of teflon players but in reverse.
Usually its players who tap you with a sword liek a woodpecker repeating their hit number (say five) as fast as they can and make no effort to represent swinging a heavy sword etc.
You get power gamers everywhere i guess.
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
I used to play ruleless/non-combat LaRP most of the time... it was up to you to act the part not worry about whether you could roll a ten for seduction, or whatever! lol...
I did do some of the Minds Eye Theatre Vamp stuff. That meant mostly doing scissor-paper-stone for all conflicts... detracts from the role playing in my eyes.
When I was at uni I did the sword hitting shouting your hit strength out stuff a couple of times... fun, but for kiddies...
In my eyes the possibilities for roleplaying in airsoft greatly outweigh anything mentioned above. With the right players its possible to stay in character 100% and not worry about rules, hit points, etc... I guess thats the beauty to me...
Hit point systems are bollocks anyway...
LARP = hideously gay IMHO ,
although I never played it , only observed from the sidelines.
lol... as said... there are loads of types...
Some more "gay" than others...
As i see it, the problem with this event wont be LARPers jumping into the Airsoft side, it'll be Airsofters jumping into LARP.
Hell, the majority of Airsofters cant follow simple rules. Putting a large number of Airsofters out overnight, in the winter, with a huge amount of rules to understand and abide by? Can't see it working, myself.
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
That's exactly what I was going to say Jay.
The LARPers will be LARPing, the airsofters 'softing. I envisage a lot of frustrated people on both sides of the fence because one group is playing differently to another.
I'm not interested in attending this event because it's just not my bag, let alone being involved in helping organise it.
My steer for CiA is to promote it in the same way we do for KGB and Warren but not get involved in organisation. If it works, there are more players in the pool for us to exploit, if it doesn't it makes our shit look better. Win, win.
Also it's pretty damned expensive, and period camping in November with kit!? Feck that!
Finally, why do the Brits have to wear a berry (sic) what about other type of fruit? And what the feck is a golden come back? Sounds like one has to shoot one's load onto one's missus whilst she's lying on her front, then take a piss on her.
Pish, another one jumping the gun - why not wait until after the meeting before throwing up objections? We all know what WE want, if it can be done then fine, if not then fine, but either way it will be sorted face to face on Thursday.
Side note: he does run an airsoft site so it is quite possible he knows a little about airsoft!
But I'm not jumping the gun because he's already promoting and publishing details of an event that I'm not interested in.
Must admit im not that interested either *but* i'll happily hear what s said at the meeting and possibly change my mind if it sounds ace.
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Well myself and Chommers had a long and interesting meeting with Josh last night . Some good some could be improved
Josh makes a living by running events. Started with LARP , then moved onto more reenactor type stuff , now looking to involve himself in airsoft. He was not what I would call a true airsofter, more someone who uses the weapons ot enhance his
Option 2 gets my vote, for several reasons:
1: It doesn't cut us out of it. WW2 Airsoft is only going to get bigger and bigger over time, as others like us discover they're sick and tired of all the modern shite, and crappy sunday games. People want an experience when they go and play Airsoft. Hence the huge increase in filmsim/milsim games over the last couple of years. Id rather be sitting on the inside of the tent pissing out, than on the outside trying to piss in.
2: Sheer resources. Numerous vehicles in games, proper fitted out HQ areas? HUGE variety of sites to play on? It's a game organisers wet dream.
3: Cross fertilisation between Josh's setup and CiA will raise the goalposts on both sides, and may give us ideas we haven't even thought of!
Right, now the sticky bit. On the money front, a tenner per player would enable CiA to up the game further. Consider it as an investment fund for hire of props, vehicles, etc etc

I see that some of my comments were discussed... what about the others though? eg. the date and the weather? sand and AEGs (etc) Until I know why Nov has been chosen for this event and what is going to be done to get past these problems then I think I want minimum involvement.
BTW... I'm not happy with paint flying around at any event where I'm present... 2 reasons:
1 - kit: I know its not supposed to be aimed at me but paint and my kit are two things I never want to mix. To the extent that I'd think twice before attending a paintball site in my kit.
2 - mesh goggles.. again shouldn't happen but could... I'm pretty sure that paint and eyes won't mix either!
Date: Nov was the only date available when the scouts were not using the site and most importantly from a battle/safety POV that members of the public are not allowed on the beach/dunes.
Weather: Nov ain't that cold these days, but Josh is happy to bring his large tents and provide heating, if it was felt needed.
Sand: You want realism? Fight like a soldier and look after your kit!
The paintball bazookas are an inspired solution to taking out vehicles - lobbing pyros has the potential to be dangerous. They won't be used by anyone - you only have one shot to take out a wheel, vehicles are driven by staff. If you don't want to get kit dirty/torn don't wear it to skirmishes, keep it to reenactment parades.
Hmmm...
Well at the moment it looks like I won't be one of the 200 attending then...
