hi kermit I just asked andy at UCAP if jeremy (my son) could play this is his reply

"Hi Neill

My insurance covers me down to 11! If he is playing with Dad, and he is
fully faced and aware that it might hurt, he can play!

Andy"

So just wanted to check if Jeremy (12 1/2) could join us on this one.... he has been airsofting for almost 2 years already!

Personally, my vote is "no". For a variety of reasons, one of which being the possibility of seriously damaging them. - 14 stone of 31 year old goes barreling into a 12 year old kid at full pelt? pretty obvious whose going to be the loser.

Suggest we put a 16 limit on this (unless anyone objects) and i will then put up a post on the Wotan thread.

Indeed, and I agree. I even think 16 is young for these events. I had to basically wet-nurse a 16 year-old guy around Arnhem as he hadn't got a clue.

Mind you, thinking about some of the wussies who bugged out of IED.....

Neil will be disappointed but I agree - played with him at Caen (er.. that came out wrong) and he is very much a 12 year old.

hmmm... not sure... I'd think I'd have to say no. Damn I wish I could remember how well the kid played...

He is a small one... hmmm....

I think we should try to keep this to just adults.

Response sent:

Hi Neill,

I've had a chat with the rest of the guys, and we're afraid that your sons age - although fine for the site insurance - is a little too low for CiA games. This is no slight on your sons ability, it is more to do with the possibility of a 15 stone adult running into him at full pelt in a pitch dark tunnel. Also, speaking as myself, and not as a CiA member, I always feel slightly guilty shooting kids.

I hope you can understand why we are doing this.

Cheers,

Jay

In addition, I've added a 16 year old age limit to the "notes for Wotan"post. I dont mind shooting at the older ones, but frankly, i do NOT like shooting at the younger ones.

I think thats a bit rotten , personally I'd have let him come , Neils kid was fine at CAEN .
Bit late now I suppose

Also means we may not see Neil at the event which would be a shame as he's a loyal supporter of us .

Fianlly I take it we are FOC for this event or are we playing it as "ask no questions, pay no fees"

Discuss the fees aspect with Andy this weekend. Considering that with 40 players, we'll be bringing him in

I too support 16+

Anything less just opens up to many issues if anything went wrong.

And on a trivial level is suspension of disbelief, I'd liek to keep the filmsim going by fighting against adults.

Event a few kids is going to make it feel a bit weird...

Just got this back from Neill:

I understand but it is disappointing he is quite desperate to join in on one..

Well, when we do a "final days of the Reich" game, we'll just hand him two Panzerfausts, a bicycle and a Hitler Jugend uniform then...

Haha.

Blummin heck, there are loads of things you can't do at 12yrs. He'll soon be 16 and even quicker 50 and then he will wish he was 12 again.

Actually Guy, he was a PITA at Caen!

Gotta give the man points for trying...

OK! do you think it will be possible to organise a woodland game at some point where a limited number of juniors could come along, I think it would add a great deal to our enjoyment and to their education! As I said i love doing airsoft with my son and it would be great to share the ww2 experience with him. We an only attend a limited no of games and as i said not being able to take him along limits our shared enjoyment...
I am sure other parents who feel the same...

any how possibly see you at wotan... havent decided if i can go yet...

I ain't responding to that. No matter what I try and write it'll come out as "Neill, I dont give a fuck. Wait till he's older"

Jay - do please respond to that . Although this issue is irritating, Neil is a loyal supporter of us and we are trying to be inclusive. If you like you can tell him we'll try and organise a game where they can both come , doesn't mean we have ot try very hard but a bit of BS will go a long way . Bear in mind we have SH's training day and both of Josh's events where we could slip Blume Jnr in without causing too much fuss. Ian took his 9 year old ot CR so it's not the end of the world .

OK, i'll dangle a possible "end of the Reich" game in front of him, that will take place at some indeterminable point in the future? - HJ would, of course, be there.

Hows that sound?

I think if under 16's were allowed then we'd have to make sure we got the parent to sign some sort of declaration that ensured that they would take full responsibility for the kid's actions.

They'd have to be accompanied by the adult at all times too. You can't be too careful.

For the record, are any of you guys registered child protection officers? Any site that allows under 18s must be registered and have child protection officers of course, so we could get around it that way. It does mean stuff like, 'no swearing, no sexual discussion or innuendo, no shouting at the kid' etc, etc.

TBH, Neil's been a bit cheeky to check with UCAP first and then ask us if it's alright.

My 2p is that the majority players will get more out of it if kids aren't allowed, but then we have to look after the future of the 'sport' right?

I personally dont feel comfortable running a show or being invloved with a show with minors present.

I have enough of looking after kids at work, i want to relax in an adult hobby.
