After a site visit, we are revising the gameplan slightly, to allow for the lower than anticipated numbers. As Russians, our job will be hit and run, ambushing vehicles and foot patrols. We will also have to locate, observe and record enemy positions, with a view to putting in covert attacks on them. Taking prisoners will also have high priority, once we have what we want from them, we will do them in and hide the body.
Operating in squads of 4, from a fixed base, we have the freedom to use the terrain to remain hidden and, to melt back into the forests after any firefight or ambush. We must avoid capture at all costs, as the enemy have a very poor opinion of the "Green Ghosts". If a job requires more than 4, we will form a larger assault squad to get it done.
The idea of operating in smaller squads is not just a matter of expediency due to numbers though, it is to allow for the fact that some players want a less physically demanding experience, whereas some want more hardcore. By splitting down into smaller units, we can cater for all.
If anyone has any questions about Russian gameplay or anything else Soviet related, please post away and I'll do my best answer them. Guy will be running a similar thread for the Germans.

I assume there will be a camp site area for the Russians at the fixed base?

Yep. Nice, flat ground (a rarity at Ceri!). Room for tents (as long as they're not too big), hammocks and bashas.

So Pete, are we scouts still travelling light and staying out in behind enemy lines all night! Just so I can ensure I bring the right kit!
Bring all of the kit you'll need John, as we'll have a permanent base to leave it all. Our operations will require a bare minimum of kit (weapon, ammo, water). If you want to operate into the wee hours, then a small bag to keep a few munchies in might be a good idea (such as a a gasmask bag).
In a nutshell you need...
Something to sleep in (shelter/tent and a sleeping bag, etc).
Something to eat (enough for 24 hours).
Something to drink (about 5 litres of water should do).
Something to shoot with (speaks for itself!).
Of course, depending on how hardcore/realistic you want to be, you can tailor your kit to your own needs. The Jedburgh kitlist is a good reference, just substitute the Brit items for Russian/partisan and you're .

Some of you, who have them, may find an entrenching tool to be of use (and I don't just mean for when you want to take a dump either!).

Improvise! Actually, you don't need one at all. I just meant that those who DO already have one, may have a use for it (without giving anything away! ).

I have 2 if anyone does want one.
