We gave up half way through "Come and See". It was just too relentlessly depressing and downright weird. How about "Red Star" I think it's called, about the usual 5 man elite squad (yawn) behind German lines. It was actually really good, but our LoveFilm disk was dodgy and we never got to see the end. No spoilers please.
Yes, The Star is quite good, if a little stylised.

I think it is worth slogging through to end, there are some beautiful images in amongst the slaughter and mayhem, although the Einsatzgruppen chaps and chappess in particular are disgusting and disturbing in equal measure, certainly not as enticing as Amon Goethe. It isn't entirely depressing all the way through, certainly not at the end.
Cheers

Europa europa is always a fun film.
I STILL think "Fiddler On The Roof" is the best option, if only for the singalong..
I'm with you, my Brother!
Having just seen "Fortress of War", I'd suggest that for you guys. A story of heroic Soviet defenders under siege from the German hordes? Sounds perfect. It's also a VERY good film.
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Yes thats what I recommended first of all, an excellent film, before Andy got all political on me.

I haven't seen it yet... but, whilst there was lots of Soviet suffering depicted... let's not forget that Brest-Litovsk is in the middle of Poland, which they had invaded!
Actually these days it is in Belarus. The place has changed hands more times than Jordan has had boyfriends. Plus it was captured by the Germans not the Soviets in 1939 and then handed over- so they actually had to take it twice.
The right or wrong of the Soviet troops being there doesn't diminish what those inside went through holding the place, or the quality of the film to my mind. Does the actions of the British empire in Africa stop you from watching Zulu? Or the Japanese in the Pacific stop you from appreciating Letters from Iwo Jima? Well ok Iwo Jima was their territory but hopefully you get the point.
My comments were only in jest.

"Attack on Leningrad" not the worst I've ever seen and I have a copy.
Was it worse than "Brothers war?" If you havn't seen it I'll gladly give you my copy so I am free of the embaressment of owning it.
Everything for the Front. Everything for Victory.
Got to be Cross of Iron wasn`t that based just across the water from the crimea peninsular anyway even if it wasn`t classic entertainment.
PS how are you going to show it, via a pc and a projector??
