Matt and I were the two saps you hosed down. By the time we were back on our feet you'd moved out, but we KIA'd the Yank who'd taken your position with a grenade. ;)

It was a really fun day. Chris, Martin and the rest of the Fireball lads always do us as a community proud. Thanks for all the effort you put in.

Liked the site a lot; more games there please!

Great playing alongside the rest of the Gebirgs and always a pleasure to game alongside so many people who appreciate the spirit of the event.

A lot of good moments. Craig and Dean's squad of Yanks launching a brilliant flanking attack on the church. When we were all dead as a result, Chris managed to Land a mortar round a few feet from all of us... Which warranted an 'arghhh' for sheer persistence.

Thanks to Matt for bailing me out with bb's after I left mine in the car and to Martin for the loan of the MP40. Much appreciated.

No real negatives. The attack on Avellino towards the end got a bit intense and at one point a few of us were repeatedly getting 'lit up' whilst on the floor KIA. One of those things and the terrain around there's overgrown so I'm assuming whoever it was couldn't see properly, but once is a mistake, twice is a bad mistake, three times is taking the piss a bit.

That aside, a lot of fun. Looking forward to the next one. ;)

Oh and Martin, I was specifically avoiding mentioning the unfortunate 'off switch' incident on the MP40. :)

Thanks so much for a great day apart from the aches :D The lads and me had a great time site was good organisation good, game play excellent, Kit levels excellent and superb to have that amount of players really makes it a WW2 feel. I really liked the missions they gave a nice feel having sometimes to avoid the enemy rather than engage. Keep it up you are all a credit to the hobby.

The drive back down South not too much problem pretty good but would have loved a social so I could meet some of the others.

Hope to see you all next year either at yours or a foray down to an AGS game 8)

No more failings...except for Cameron getting stuck in a tree one meter from ground level, that's always worth a mention!

To be fair I've never been so relieved that a gun had an on/off switch. :)

Here a quick report from a GJ private - 2nd MG gunner.

Small unit of the GJ were left on the church hill to block the advance of the Allies towards our HQ. We had camouflaged our position and had the high ground wit MG42 dug in.
I was given the left flank of our 4 men unit. As expected the enemy ran into our position and our MG opened fire. The well known impact of our MG could be heard across the little valley. The allies responded with smoke grenades and returned fire. A fire fight broke out with the rest of my unit. My side seemed very calm and I was anxious to enter the fight, nicely hidden in a bush K98 ready to snipe advancing enemies coming through the smoke screen on my right.
Unfortunately I had completely lost sight of the flank I was to cover and suddenly I heard running sounds behind me. An American squad had outflanked us, now slaughtering my friends. Enemy soldiers were passing my bush not more than a feet away but did not spot me. My heart was racing. What could I do 6-8 enemies and me with my K98? Shall I surrender or try to flee? No, I decided to do as much damage as possible. I tried not to move too much and pulled out a grenade from my belt. Unfortunately the US boys were veterans and after they had taken the position started to secure it in ALL directions. While I was getting ready to throw my grenade, one of the Americans spotted me in the bush and a burst of his sub machine gun surely saved few of his mates.

It was surely not my most glorious moment of the day but surely the one with the highest level of adrenaline.

Driving a bit more than 2 hours from London was surely worth it. Thanks to Chris, Martin and all others that helped make this day happen!! Surely enjoyed it.

Another great game from Chris, Martin and the Fireball team, so thanks to them, also thanks to our glorious Herr Leutnant Tim for keeping us in line, and the rest of the Gebirg Zug, Martin, Gareth, Lutz, Kieron, Jimmy, Sean and the 2 Matts, for being one of the best teams I've played with.

My only thoughts on ROTT was that more combined Zug missions would have been good, but it seemed to naturally happen in this game, especially between the GJ and FJ where there was some friendly rivalry on who helped who out more

I think the morphine medic system worked well, as I managed to keep our Zug fighting when up against it, although it was it bit manic in the final battle ! it would be interesting to take this a step further and only allow the medic to medic a wounded soldier, e.g. a soldier could be dragged out of the line of battle but only a medic could apply a bandage.

And respect to the allied player who got me with a single headshot in the final battle against our HQ :good:

Also like Lutz said driving a bit more than 2 hours from Yorkshire was surely worth it :D

Cheers

Glad you had a good time , but with regards the medic rule it won't be changing for us , as its designed to help keep squads together for longer as we strive for squad play , if we make it harder to keep squads together it will break up fast with the mission style game due to not knowing where any 1 is lol , in a game where its more structured you could maybe do that :)

if you lose your squad on a site like stormforce it could be hard to find them again, apart from heading back to a rally point

My squad slipped up a bit with the medic rule, in the sense we forgot for most of the day lol, i will press gang someone with your drive for it next lol as if we used that when you guys had us pinned down at our base , we may have lasted a lot longer.

i was tempted by a few more joint missions , and we had a cpl on the allied side, like when we went to clear the minefield we had a order to give another squad a order sheet to come with us and protect us.

But as it was our first game on that site for ww2 i was wary on messing with the system, but i can assure you next one will have a few joint missions but i can say much at mo ;)

It was a particularly good moment. Ordered to attack and trotting up the hill, spread out and silent. Dean's 'at the double signal' and everyone breaks into a run. We see the GJ. They are looking the other way. No one fires as we advance. Closer. Closer. Surely they must hear us and turn around? Someone, I forget who, looks as if they are turning and we open fire. We scream and charge through the area. We begin to clear the area and I see movement in a bush. I recognise the shape moving as human and think "are they dead? They may be dead, and would not appreciate another squirt from a Thompson... Can't risk it, they'll understand". Blam Blam. Perimeter secured.

A wonderfully fun snapshot in time.

I think the medic/CP rules worked fine, we just had to remember to make use of our medic and CP, not always easy in the heat of the moment... it did mean we tried very hard to stay together, and by and large managed that.

The joint mission was also fun, although it took quite a noticeable time to get both squads up and running at the same time. The big battle at the end was also good fun as we had a whole team plan.

Cheers

Hey no problem, I thought the Germans put up a spirited defence but after an hour our perimeter was shrinking and I must admit to looking at my watch hoping the final whistle would come whilst there were still some of us alive :giggle:
