I was just wondering what all the signed up British players are planning on wearing? Although it isn't a restricted uniform event, it might be nice of we looked vaguely like a unit or unit(s).

I was just planning on wearing my normal BD and Mark II, albeit badged up as RE.

Could do para or commando if that is what everyone else is going as, but would rather not as iirc the Gothic Line was strictly an infantry affair.

Cheers

Hoping to join you in RE but otherwise Lancashire Fusiliers as my Grandfather was in them in WWI or possibly Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (might see the Tam o Shanter rather than the GS cap come out!), but in any event the 78th Battle Axe divisional badge. I love badges; they certainly make me feel more specific about where I am and what the scenario is.

Although Italy I think it will be too cold for any KD, so yes just straight BD with perhaps a jerkin too, perhaps the scrubbed webbing too as a nod to Africa.

What makes Commando specifically Commando, are we simply talking cap comforter or green beret instead of helmet?

I have a small skewer hidden in the collar of my jumping jacket, and a razorblade in my gaiter, as well as my knife.

I always thought it was just the hat, although commandos wore tin hats too. Airfix commandos have wooly jumpers under their BD and a steely expression though.

Didn't commandos also get rubber soled boots, and BD trousers with a pocket for the fairbairn sykes knife?
or are those the details that don't get noticed from a distance?

I have one that you can use in that size. I'll bring it along. Please remind me a couple of days before the gig

My original plan was '40 Pattern Denim Battledress, but I've been able to source some wool '37 BD for £140 from Epic Militaria, so I'll be going as a generic Tommy, no badging up, although my GS Cap will say Royal Norfolk Regiment as that was the one I got for it when I bought it, hopefully I'll get my Entrenching tool and "House Wife" before the event, has anyone ever ordered anything from Sabre Sales over the phone, I've tried calling and it always ends up with voice mail, is this normal or are they just busy, also I was asked to provide my card details so they could process my order, what would they require to do this?

On another note, my friend will be coming in either Denim or Wool, depends on whether he has to borrow my Denim or he buys his own Wool.

Everytime I've called they've picked up. Try emailing too, they normally reply straight away.

I usually call first to discuss my requirements then send an email. Not bought anything from SS for a year or so though.

Would just like to quickly check somethings over, my friend is unable to get his wool BD for the event and so will be coming in denim battle dress from Soldier Of Fortune, I'm lending him them and they will look similar to this (without the badging etc).

His webbing will also be a bit random as well, consisting of a basic set of webbing, belt, pouches etc, however his pack is a large one and hasn't gotten round to getting a small pack.

If there's any suggestions or further queries on what he will be wearing to the event I am willing to reveal them, I am just hoping that we don't make a mess of our first event.

I'm concerned about him keeping warm so I'd like to see if he can wear my greatcoat if it's too cold, he has one but it's a Foot Guard Blue one, mine is this kind.

It's from Ebay and cost £35, is it WW2 or was it a lie?

Hard to tell from the size of the photo, but the collar to me suggests that it's a post-war ("Dismounted, 1950 Pattern"). It should tell you what it is on the small white label on the inside right hand side. Not too different to a WWII pattern greatcoat - only problem with greatcoats, especially with new inexperienced players, is them being able to feel their hits.

Yes, a couple of weeks ago I was playing in a gretacoat and I could see I was in a shower of BBs but couldn't feel a thing. I went down anyway.

If he is worried about being cold, just wear a tracksuit or something under the denims. I played last February in -4 degrees all day in a cotton uniform with a tracksuit underneath and was as warm as toast. Gloves and headover came off by lunchtime.

Main issue with denims is getting soaking wet (and cold), so some sort of wicking thermal layer underneath might be an idea. Cotton kills and all that.
