There's been a lot of talk re what to wear but I've not read much re the style of the game play we can expect! I may have missed the appropriate stickies but I had picked up on ammo limitations! As I'm still a rookie, I'd like some info/direction on style of engagement and ammo limits. Just for my own peace of mind. Can't wait to get into the war once more!

Game play - the exact opposite of Devil's Hill.

It will be different to Devils Hill ! * edit CW beat me to it

Let me explain .

We tend to change the format of the events around to keep things different, and we all take turns to work out whats going on, so you get 5 different takes on what is a "CiA" event, althuogh we try to keep them to a flavour that is recognisable .

So last year , we had a day event sneaking around tunnels in the dark with armoured cars, Jedburgh was very much a "living in the era" type event, little what you would call typical "action", but a lot of suspense and a sense of living like a soldier in 1944, Devils Hill was an all out battle scenario aimed at getting the two sides into action very quickly and for the maximum amount of time . In earlier events we have also done more role play type games ( we did the film story of The Eagle has landed) , we've done fictional and "real"events. None of them are what we would call typical "airsoft games" anymore. For example we don't have win or loose as an outcome , there no criteria, just two or three sides with their own often unmatched missions to carry out . Who won is often in the view of the people on the ground and open different views of the same event ...same as the war.

So to answer your question .
The scenario is based on a true event , but fictionalised to make a long day of it . It is likely to run for 8-10 hours continuously .
As a member of the Brit forces, either armed or civilian you will have things to do during the day ,which may involve capturing Hess or maybe not . If you see Germans what will YOU do?, attack them?, report back? or sneakily follow and see what they are up to ? There's no set answer , and it's the sort of thing you'd have had to decide on your feet in 1941.
The Germans will have a clearer mission , however they will not be looking to capture the flag or hold positions, in fact they won't be looking to engage the enemy at all for most of it unless really neccessary . They are 20 in the middle of an enemy island, they'd be bonkers to try it ,& they will probably have even less ammo
As for Hess, the only person to know what's going on with him is CW .Is he trying to contact the duke, will he avoid home Guard or surrender to them , will he want to go back with the German rescue force? No one on either side will truly know , and he might change his mind as he goes on.
No one from this forum knows the site well including us, so there could be all sorts of odd things happening .
For those who were at Op Arial two years ago , ( a post Dunkirk sceanario with Brits trying to sabotage and escape) you'll know how this can go .

I hope that wets your whistle

PS there will be a special award for anyone managingto jab Hess up the arse with a pitchfork ...probably ....well ...there's already a long queue on PMs to me about it anyway

As long as we can still shoot him afterwards :)

Thanks for your detailed reply! Sounds totally different to Devils Hill and very intresting! It's reasuring that the organisers can think beyond a standard airsoft approach and that they can come up with scenarios that will challenge and provoke thought! Any recommendations of reputable pitch fork suppliers?

You will probably find that most decent pitchforks have been handed down through the generations and are actually 100's of years old, although they may well have had numerous new handles and several sets of new forks ................................

So, are we talking 3 or 4 pronged? And shaft length? And were handles in regular use then? Please guide me for authentisities sake! I'd hate to jab Hess with the wrong jabby thing!

4 pronged counts as a support weapon and you're only allowed 3 jabs .

I'll give you fair warning that if I'm not treated with the respect my rank and my relationship with the nobility of Great Britain demands then plans might change. Poke your primitive weapons at your enemy not your friend!

to quote the home guard " they don't like it up em "

Worth noting though that this is a serious event not a pantomine .

Sorry, it's got to be said .........................

Oh No it isn't !!

Having got that out of the way, I don't think that anyone is doubting the validity/seriousness of the event, just enjoying the 'novelty' of the topic.

Imho, part of the appeal of the event is that it's in a scenario that can be related to. Italy, North Africa, even Northern France are 'a world away' - this is in our own back yard, in circumstances that we hear spoken about in real terms, about everyday things, fighting a desperate battle (or so it felt at the time) for everything we held dear, and then trying to cope with a 'normal' life as well.

Serious event, just having a bit of fun as well ........................ :good:
