Just got back from a meeting with Paul from AI and looks like July 5-6 we’re running a futuristic Colonial Marines games for his AI300. So far we’re sticking with the Galactica theme of no aliens and modern kit but a definite theme to the experience.
One side of colonials will be in
US woodland shirt (provided by the event)
US woodland trousers or OD
and the other
US tricolour shirt (provided by the event)
US tricolour trousers or Black combats.

Also there will be galactic scavengers on the planet (scavs) think firefly with shemaghs.

The three factions of chavs will have their own objectives and can be hired by either or both sides as mercs. This will be done in a down town shanty neutral zone.

Using the conflict rules (see gma website) its already looking like a cracker. Candleston has been booked and paid for as it has sand and is a great site.

What do peeps think?

Sounds like a great laugh, and a welcome departure from 'let's dress up as PMCs and waste the brown people' feeling of some desert games.

I'd go to this if I wasn't so skint.

Sounds cool to me, although i'd be sorely tempted to throw in an 'alien' NPC.

Yorkshire Paintball used to have an awesome 'Predator' game played at random once in the day which genuinely worked.

PM me for details.

AI300 Colonial Wars
5-6 July 2008
Candleston, South Wales

The spin

In 2015 the planet surface change forever as the eco system collapsed and began to break down and the earth became inhabitable, the only place left was the stars. Since the public announcement 1984 at the EU summit that the Earths climate was changing at an alarming rate, large corporations around the world pulled together with their governments support to pool their time and resources into a secret project called the ‘Ghia Terra’ project. Could other planets in our solar system sustain human life long enough for our own planet to repair itself? Now was the time to put it to the test.

Within the first few months of the collapse millions of people perished in great waves and winds, fires and earthquakes. Cities where shattered and continents were lost below the oceans. During the build up to 2015 only 200 space worthy vessels were completed and out of them only 60 were designed for population. By the end of the 14 August 2015 a mere 12 Colonies of 700,000 people were saved from the planets surface. One of these colonies was made up from the old United States US known now as the ‘United Colonial Federation’ UCF’.

After the total annihilation of sentient life on earth the colonies where scattered to the stars. The UCF remained in orbit around the earth with thoughts that one day they could return to her surface once the weather system had stabilised. Out of the 700,000 people that survived, the UCF numbered 320,000 and was the largest of the colonial fleets, numbering 24 population ships and 33 other vessels.

Time past and government was restored to the UCF colony. Though behind the president’s office sat the heads of the 9 corporate institutes that funded that UCF at the start. For 7 years the colony prospered in orbit and a Luna station was set up on the moon. On the 04 July 2022 the clouded atmosphere of the earth began to clear and the true devastation could now be witnessed. It was decided that an expeditionary force should be sent down to take sample and see what state the planet was in. The results showed that there were small pockets of inhabitable land and that a lot of the eco system was still in place. The president announced that by 2030 small colonies of the UCF would be able colonise these areas and the return to earth was announced.

It was now that a splinter group of the corporate governors of ‘Ghia Terra’ known as ‘Europa corp.’ made a play for control of the inhabitable areas and began to descend their Colonial Marines to the earth surface. In response to this, the president enounced Europa corp. as a renegade faction to the cause and dispatched UCF colonial marines to intercept and destroy this rogue element.

And so by the eve of the great evacuation 13 August 2022 the Colonial Wars began.

As part of the event every participant will be given a shirt to wear to help put his or her kit together.

UCF will wear a US tricolour top and US tricolour OR black trousers.

Europa corp will ware a US woodland top and US woodland OR Olive trousers.

Both sides will receive AI300 badges and slides depending on which side there on and the event will feature a full command structure lead by in game marshals. We have chosen to run a large sci-fi game as its never been done before and we think we can hit it on the head, but to keep it so all can take part and enjoy its look and feel we have kept weapons technology, the look and strategy to a modern day theatre.

GMA can rent all the gear to play if you have nothing!

The will also be Merc groups for hire more details to follow.

This event will be using modified GMA Conflict rules to fit in the Theme.

Hi, definately interested in this and will try to get clearance to go.

What are the costs likely to be and will the start/ finish mirror the D-Day events?

As Gadge added, can the SciFi theming be pushed a little? I was thinking in terms of allowing limited players to wear some armour, full paintball masks, motocross armour - like exoskeleton etc, perhaps for certain roles only, player can ignore strikes on armour but not those off? If not workable, fair enough. Just an idea I had been working on for an airsoft playable SciFi theme sort of, but in no way like Warhammer (TM). Just trying ideas where a little technology can be introduced that needs tactics to defeat but every gain in one area has a cost in another. Another idea was the use of smoke as gas but only giving cheap safety masks (as gas masks) to certain sides/ player roles, as per the ww2 game recently played.

Anyway, sounds good and if I can I will book on when available.

By the way, was it a freudian slip that scavingers (scavs) became Chavs in the next paragraph?

Any chance of moving the dates to aweekend earlier so it doesn't clash with WW2 events?

Josh, speaking of clashing dates, doesn't the fact that your Cold War game is taking place on the same weekend at the same venue create a bit of an issue?

AI have pulled out of their event so the idea is being put on hold! forgot to update this thread! Sorry guys, very busy boy at the mo! As for clashing, again sorry for that but I have to keep rolling events out and there arn't that many dates free in the year!

Cold War is being run that weekend instead of AI300 as I had booked the site and we have a pile of guys that want CW! Its a two part game, first part in July, second in August.
