Don't forget, if you want it to look really snazzy get one of the glow in the dark I.D tags which goes on the back. Has anyone actually tried making one of them glow, stuck mine under a lamp for about 5 sec and it glowed green for AGES lol
Don't forget once you've finished a loadout, stick some pics up on the American Kit Pic thread. Have a look on there for some ideas also.

dont over do it with the camoflage, can run the risk of making your helmet look like a floral arrangement.
Those ID tags would have been ditched on as soon as they landed, its like a glowing target for the enemy to shoot at.

I know that but it adds something to the helmet and they don't literally illuminate the helmet, I believe the originals, you could barely see from 15ft away. You won't need a glowing disc to shoot at, at that range.

True - a bayonet would work
That's a long bayonet, you planning on using it like a javelin.

Oh I guess you haven't seen the re-issued WW1 ones then
Use different lengths. I twisted the material as i passed it through the net. Just experiment. There isn't really a "correct" way to do it. It was just personal preference.
I need to take mine off and re do it anyway as its gone flat in storage.
For the proper, authentic way to go don't use scrim at all. It wasn't very common, neither was the use of foliage in the helmet for Yanks.
However, on of the biggest giveaways when skirmishing is the outline of the helmet, so I've used scrim for ages. Mine is greased hessian which is tied in knots onto the scrim. It works wonders.
