As always when considering the upcoming game I've been pondering what gun I'll use primarily throughout the game. When I do this it inevitably sets me thinking about what guns I dont have and what guns havent been made. And this then makes me want to start a project heh.

Eg Done a 1903 and a wichester trench gun, though I need to make a heatshield still for the trenchgun. Always quite fancied building a grease gun but hit problems last time. So thought it might be a good idea to list up the various guns and share advice on how we could perhaps manage to make them.

I'll start the ball rolling with the various bits I've done so far:

High standard HDM

Made from a ruger mk1 bull barrel, a king arms silencer, and some plastic piping. Suprisingly effective, did very well for itself at wotan. Cheap to produce too.

Springfield 1903

Made from a mp001 clone rifle and the front of a springfield stock. Joined the front of the stock and then put on the other bits to make it look correct. Others have managed to fit the mp001 inside the springfield stock after dremelling but my stocks were to weak around the grip area. Reasonably expensive to make depending on how cheap you can get a springfield stock.

Grease gun

Tried to work out how to make one of these a while ago. Been done on the yank forums by putting a mp7 internals into a hudson model. China used to make a springer one which I was going to try and fit the springer externals onto another gun but it got discontinued.

the biggest problem here is that the grease guns magwell is so far from the trigger. Most modern guns have the magwell up against or close to the trigger.

BAR

Will let webby comment on this as he tried to build one from a m14 and got reasonably close judging by the pictures.

Garand

Warren at shoot n scoot produces a kit for this as well as a whole gun. as does a chap in the phillipenes. though the phillipenes version has its flaws judging from those who have bought it. a chap called 2ndbat on the US forums makes them too. Some users have also made their own but when I looked into it the gasblock assembly was stupidly expensive.

Trench gun aka model 12 winchester shotgun.

Mine was made from a TM super 90 though this limits its range a little. for a longer range one you can make one from a maruzen CA870 which can be upgraded for longer range. However that limits you to 1bb at a time. So its a bit of a balancing act.

A tanaka gas trench gun is on offer but its pricey and seems to have a bad reputation.

Thats all I can think of currently. Please add more if you think of them and brainstorm any ideas you have. It'd be great to introduce a little more variety to our armoury.

M1 carbine

8mm m1 and m2 version on offer from marushin as well as the rarer 6mm m1 version(not sure how rare this actually is).

Some chap in japan also put a mp7 inside a broken marushin but other than that theres not much choice. Marushin are supposedly releasing a m1 6mm gbb version this year but no confirmed date yet.

Thought about cutting down a m14 but the guns to big. also considered modding a Well carbine sniper as the lengths similar but the bolts in the wrong place to cock it. suggestions?

I gave up when I heard about the VFC BAR. The M14 had too many areas that disfigured the shape of the gun away from a BAR. I'm not skilled enough to machine the whole thing out of metal to match it exactly, I'm sure Warren has told me he has toyed with the idea, but not got very far with it.

Incidently, the image below on my sig where i have my USMC gear on, that's my M14/BAR, its ok from a distance, but up close it looked a bit pap! :P

Still the same mate, apparently all VFC guns need a completely new hop unit putting in them

The Johnson would be nice, wasnt it going to be the main battle rifle until the Garand was put into production? It has a cycling drum mag hasnt it? A bit like a Pancor Jackhammer shotgun

The internal magazine of the Johnson isn't the same as the rotating magazine on the Pancor Jackhammer, which is more like a revolver I believe.

It was in competition with the M1 Garand but the Government choose the Garand because it was easier to load and more reliable. Fieldstripping also left you with less small parts to lose.
Some Johnson LMGs were ordered in 1942 that eventually went to the First Special Service Force who used them in Italy.

The Dutch ordered a large supply to be used in Indonesia. But we never got them as the island was overrun by the Japanese before delivery.

These guns were later supplied by the CIA to the Anti-Castro factions....many ending up at the bottom of the Bay of Pigs... :(

I've only ever seen one M1941 Johnson in real life before, it was on offer at War&Peace 2005.

The Antique shop that used to be on Derby Road near the Ropewalk in Nottingham used to have 1 (de-activated) It was pretty ropey though. Shame that shop isnt there anymore, they had loads of cool stuff!

wouldnt take much to do, but like with the Garand, you'd still have an M14 mag sticking out.

another acm shotgun mag conversion perhaps....

if you managed to modify the feed well that lump where the real magazine went could be adapted to hold a locap or something similar?

Reising m50 could be a interesting one too though dont see how it could be made with anything but a springer sniper which kinda defeats the object....
UD m42 would be cool too but no room for a gearbox i feel

that reising is cool. cant see how I could fit the motor into the stock tho. may have to go for a m14 or mp40 gearbox

Still a pretty cool picture though.

The main thing about the Reising SMG is that they were very unreliable, jungle conditions made them even worse. The Marines got rid of them in favour of anything else they could find.

"Lt. Col. Merritt Edson, commanding officer of a Marine Raider battalion, ordered all Reising submachine guns issued to his unit to be dumped unceremoniously into a river, so that his men might draw better weapons"

:D
Garands had not been supplied in enough numbers to the Marines early in the war. That M1903 in that picture would probably have been the main type of rifle for the unit the men in that picture belong to.
