This may sound a bit nooby but our American infantry style webbing "suspenders" from Soldier of Fortune are way too long.

When they are all adjusted we both end up with 4 straps about 300mm (1 foot) long dangling below the belt at the front.

Do we -

a) Cut them off with scissors
b) Put up with it, it's actually realistic, and tuck them in somewhere
c) Grow 50% taller and/or fatter to take up the slack

Any suggestions or help would be gratefully received.

If your sure you wont expand too much, (never a sure thing with the major + gucci burgers  )

id go for cutting them. BUT burn the ends then rub glue in to them (araldites best) it will prevent them fraying and falling apart.

Or tape the up out of sight.

Hope this helps,
Anthony

Hmmm, my suspenders are adjusted to the shortest possible and without modification but in addition my US M43's are worn very high (also my German M43's) - think Simon Cowel and then some! Could be to do with body shape - me being short in the leg and long in the trunk.

Don't cut them!!!!

Can you post a picture of how you've adjusted them? You may have done it wrong.

I'm not massive and I have plenty of take-up in them. You've adjusted the back straps too right!?

The pistol belt is worn *quite* low, but not on the hips.

Thanks for the quick responses - I'll get some pictures sorted and post them up - should have done that first really.

Here're the pictures.

I don't think the back can be adjusted any shorter.

Problem is worse on Anne because she's shorter than me.

Christ, it looks like you've got it right.

They're certainly a lot longer than my original ones. You could probably take a few more inches out of it by adjusting the doubling over of the straps to full length.

Just tuck the bits in or put some weight on. ;o)

Mine are the same length, but i threaded them through twice. go back through the bottom loop again then tie the up the back..

Thanks everybody - will try the doubling over/double threading idea.

Annoyingly, Anne told me to try something like that but I didn't believe her. Shows what I know.

On the more modern ones users would probably roll up the ends and use some electrical tape to hold the little rolls together. I'm not sure if they'd have done this in WW2 though!

I would get them adjusted to the fit you need then get a small screwdriver or knife & prize the metal ends off the straps, cut the strap leaving a few inches on for future adjustment then try & put the metal ends back on the straps with a vice or pair of pliers,
