Cool. Ive realised why i couldn't see where it would fit. My repro liner doesn't have the little pins for the leather chin strap to clip onto...rather it has a later style popper system thats being used my the webbing chin strap. I may have to mod the liner slightly.

No, that popper is for your webbing chin strap to clip into the liner. You should have the pins for the leather liner chinstrap too. Often just the liners were worn in garrison or during training. If you look at the front of the lining you may find a hole in it which was for placing rank bars on the liner.

That looks like a very nice liner. It's a high impact liner with A-straps.

Take a picture of the entire liner and post it up.

Yep HS is right biguk, those poppers are for your para main chin strap. Here' s a pic of my M2, you can see the A-frames (tucked out of the way) that support the chin cup, the main chin strap with the additional popper as it's a para version and of course the thin leather strap for the liner.

It's a Josh Murray 1944 Inc. renovation, it's the same helmet I've got on in the other pictures I posted. He does do a very good job. The liner in that one is a refurbishment that I did myself with a kit from Josh.

Around the same time I also refurbished a post war helmet and liner, converting it from a swivel bale to a fixed bale and also replacing the suspension webbing completely with another kit from Josh.

Experimenting making fixed bales

Stripped liner exterior and interior

Stripped helmet shell

Finished interior

Finished M1 fixed bale helmet after painting/corking but before attachment of the chin strap

ive tracked down where my helmet came from. Its a SOF 506 NCOs Para Helmet. If you take a closer look at the pic on there website there's no pin for the leather chin strap.

Thing is they aren't just cosmetic. They form an integral part of the helmet's design.

not so much with these. I believe that leather chinstrap is essentially what holds the shell onto the liner

the liner is tight as hell with a net sandwiched between it and the shell,
