Hi Guys
I'm new to the forum and am getting into WWII Airsoft soft in a big way. All my kit has turned up (US Rangers)
It took me a while but ive managed to sort out the majority of the kit, but I have a few questions about the D-Day assault vest
1 Are the pockets on the front of the vest designed to carry an particular equipment
2 On my vest I have two straps just below the shoulders on the front of the vest, what are these for?
Many thanks
Paul

I like orenge.
If its passed 9 there is a 95% chance im pissed.
I think that what went into the pockets depends on personal choice and your main armament. Mostly I think the pockets were stuffed with things that go BANG or go SMOKE plus ammo, ammo, ammo.

Its not a Ranger Assault Vest.
Im getting an ATF one personally.

Paul, just bought an OD vest-new for a fraction of the SOF price(dont think its an SOF one).
Any chance of some pics of yours to compare/to see if mine is any good or a pile of crap please?
Thanks

Yeah it wasnt a Ranger specific vest, more over just one which was given to troops during the landing.
Although its only a film, you'll notice on Saving Private Ryan that most of the guys on the beach don't have them, I think most people associate them with a Ranger vest because Tom hanks had 1 in SPR! ![]()
Pockets on the front would have had TNT, Grenades, Ammo, Ammo, Ammo like HB said, the straps on your shoulders are usually what your suspender straps go through, so the straps dont slide off your shoulders.

Can I just make a tiny criticism, I don't think the shoulder holster looks right, not with the Ranger uniform anyway. Mainly distributed to Airborne troops and the Air Corps, unless I'm mistaken. Anyway great representation.

actually I had heard the rangers had a habit of using the shoulder ones for what ever reason. easier to get the pistol out I imagine. Not sure if it was issued or they begged/borrowed/stole it but they had em.
like anything though once you were on the line kit rules went to rat shit and you used what was best. look at all the gear the infantry landed with on dday or airborne dropped with on dday and how long they actually kept it. the assault vest is a prime example. so totally feasible they ended up with the shoulder holster.

thats was i was lead to believe, its seemed that tre Rangers used a lot of kit form other units Ive also seen pics of them wearing Airborne gloves
I also saw a pic of a ranger with a cut down assault vest on, but buggered if I can find it now

aye they sure had the pick of the kit like the airborne lads

And a poor old dogface like me with my bloody Roughouts and mustards! ![]()

A lot of the rangers wore the corcoran jump boots too, and HBTs instead of mustards, and HBT jacket under their M41s
