I was wondering if anyone know's if the silk escape maps are being reproduced. Been googling on and off for a few weeks and have come up with some, but they are original. Im really after one of the normandy area. Would like to wear it round my neck, instead of the section of parachute. Like ive seen the airborne guys do in footage / pics before d-day.
I used one of Sicily for the Husky game - very useful as we got dropped way off our designated LZ! (Bought from Springfields.co.uk)
I'm pretty sure most 'silk' maps were actually rayon - no silk worms were harmed in their making
Springfields don't have Normandy but would anyone be able to tell where it is once it's wrapped round your neck? £15 BTW - they are originals but may be printed after 1945.
Here is a repro France one for £20 http://military.absolutewebhosting.co.u ... rod_anchor

I'm fairly sure my original silk map is actually silk... Mind you being made in India silk was probably more common!
Cheers guys, Yeah i was thinking of just using any old one, but if it could get one normandy area then spot on. That france one looks find though..I'll just get the wallet.
On an interesting note, US Army Airborne officers who refused to hand in their escape maps from Normandy were docked a considerable amount of money following the end of the war. Needless to say most kept them.
