doe any know where i can get a period repro walkie talkie case? its the giant hand held thing that looks like an eighty's mobile.

i want to use radio on my site but a pmr radio kind of stands out against the rest of my kit.

I looked into this a year ago with a view to making a modern day repro out of the case. Sadly the originals are rarer than rocking horse poo, mostly down to them being highly prized collectors items (working or non). You're looking at £150-300 for the ones I spotted a while back.

The only thing I ever saw that came close to a repro was a kids toy walkie talkie set but sadly it was scaled down. The only other option is to build your own box out of wood or plastic :(

Mind you my info is a year or so out of date (could be longer, I cant remember) so someone might have done something in the mean time.

I did see a company in america making repros of these... I think... it was a few months back.

Its worth investigating.

BTW I think the model number is SCR536, if that helps?

That may just be one variant...

I am also interested in obtaining one of these... real or repro, working or not... apparently the Chindits were issued with them... :)

I have an old style motorola police radio, which may be used as a stand-in if you're still stuck later. I don't have a battery charger for it, however.

About halfway down the page. $55 each for a kit. Hmm not bad.

Not to piss on anyone's parade here, but the BC-611 was refered to as the "Handy-Talky", the big BC-1000 backpack radios were called the "Walky-Talky" ;)

I've seen the repro cases in the U.S.. Didn't someone stuff portofoon units into them to make them work?

These ones look like they have a slot in for a Motarola set to fit in so I guess they would work :)

You picky bugger flib ;) :D

They look simple enough to make out of tin plate to me, in my opinion the controls have to work for real as do mic and spkr. That one looks like you have to take the PMR out to use it properly then hide it back inside. :?

I think you could make them out of PVC cable trunking dead easy all you would need is a hacksaw, file, drill, glue and paint.
Use some 2" PVC pipe for the mic and spkr mounts (jam jar lids :P I should work for Blue Peter yes remember when you were a kid and kept spiders in them and made nail holes in the top)
I probably have about 60ft of that stuff in work 8)

I was looking for a PMR head set kit and vehicle mount radio to put in the tank.

I dare you go on go on!

Cheap walkie inside take the mike out and solder all the bits back to the main board get some push buttons from Maplin and fix them on the case.
Maybe a Maplin battery holder in the bottom as well.
Just make the back the part that pops off so you don't even need screws.

If it is a plastic case you don't even need to mod the arial as the PMR one inside will work just as well, just fit a bit of rubber pipe out the top.

i seam to remember that the small 12inch new age action man figers catalog had then in for about £30 for two, they did look slightly smaller than the originals, but i think they bosted 1/2 mile range or some thing,

sorry if a bit iffy on the info but it was a few years back that i saw them,

Got it!

Its a little rougher than i thought it might be, but it should tidy up easily enough.

Its made of solid plastic and has dome decent details such as the screws around the ptt switch and name plate
