After all the effort, time and money, we didn't use them! Del's developed a niggly little feed problem. Mine ran like a train but one look at those hills made me decide not to hump it about on the saturday. The plan was to use it on sunday but I injured my back and didn't play and I couldn't find any volunteers to use it.
I'm sorry to have disappointed Guy, as I know he had plans for our extra firepower. They will be used at some point, I promise!

Cheers Del!

It'll be nice to get some WWII gaming of any description this year at the rate things area going!
All the best.
John.
You've been missed, shame when life and 'play-time' don't sync the way you want it too
looks good.
So that's 4 Tanaka k98's and the MG-34? You planning on doing a section all by yourself?
Wow Chris - looks brilliant mate!
Can I have a go? Can I have a go? Can I have a go? Can I have a go?? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!!!! ![]()

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
Looking good! How about some pictures of the gearbox? I'd be interested to see how you squeezed it in. I hope you're not too upset that the Chinese are bringing one out
Mind you, I'm sure they'll bring out an MG42 just to piss ME off!

Done a bit more tinkering. Added the rear sight, a bit of ammo belt, an outer barrel, plus the cocking handle. The handle is fixed but it looks the part. All I need now is to locate a proper front sight assembly.

Great pics Pete
Looks fantastic mate!
The only little thing that looks a bit odd is the barrel release lever sticking out at too much of an angle. looks to be at about 45deg whereas it should be more like 30deg, but im guessing thats not an easy one to fix?
“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

You're absolutely right. I've thought about cutting it off and re-welding it, or even trying to acquire a real steel one. It's something I'll get round to eventually. I won't consider it truly "finished" until I sort that out, plus have added a proper front sight. Still, it's quite a nice feeling to know the only things left to do are purely cosmetic.
It's always a bit of an anti climax when I finish a custom gun, because I know there's nothing else to do and the fun of sourcing parts and the problem solving are over. Now I need to think of something else to make!

I know exactly what you mean. 95% of the enjoyment of customs are in the planning and building. I have a ton of projects going round in my head all the time, some quite possible, some really mad
. If only I had the time and resources to do half of them.
One of the Guys on the US WW2 forums has done a really nice MP41 conversion and I quite fancy having a crack a one as I do like guns with a bit of wood on them. Real stocks are pretty expensive though so a home-made stock may be in order.
Still , I need to finish my APS2 K98 first, I'm just waiting for a couple of parts and some steel bluing paste to come through the post to do the final finish.

Sarcastic T**t
Never know what's a deac and what you boys have put together from old twigs and spit on here. Still it does look gorgeous ![]()
Now fitted a real steel front sight and cone retainer. A tiny bit of cosmetic work to do on it but at least it's fitted! Now, to source a real barrel change door for it!

3 more.... (By the way, for the benefit of the FG
, the cap is laying out on the back garden to weather it a bit!

damn, how have i missed this thread.
excellent work there pete they look great.
i had seen these metal replica's at zib a while back and thought about getting one to convert, but could not bring myself to part with £400 only to realise it could'nt be done. i might have a crack at one now after seeing these, was they fairly straight forward to do?
jay
Yes and no Jay. There is a LOT of cutting and drilling to be done. Also, I had to replace an awful lot of parts to make it more "authentic", such as cocking handle, front sight, cone retainer and the rear sight (also the barrel change door if you're as picky as me). For a bloke of your talents and the fine selection of tools you have, the cutting of the receiver wouldn't be hard though (and a damned sight neater than mine!). The most fiddly things to do are the "airsoft" things, such as the hop to gearbox seal and an effective feed system. (BTW, Zib is a tool to deal with).
If you're coming to the December game, you're welcome to have a look over mine and see what needs doing and I can answer any questions in depth.
