Rather than end up with the Sniper/Rifle section full of unconnected comments etc, I created this thread.

Feel free to post here.

Nice pics Boshman :good:

Thanks Del, The little excursion you did for me at W&P was not in vain :good:

Nice conversion Boshman. I always thought that the APS2 would be a good fit.

Cheers mate, the only real issue visually is that the mag is deeper than the VSR mags so it does protrude from the bottom of the stock by about 2mm. Not much can be done about it without some major butching of the mags so I will probably leave it as is.

I wouldn't worry about 2mm. Anyway, your front hand covers it when the rifle is being used. I used to have a Shoot & Scoot stocked APS2 converted to an L96 about 6 years ago. It shot really well (if a bit hard to cock). I've always rated the APS rifles and I especially like the fixed hop versions because of their consistency with the .29g SGM rounds.

Yup,they are a bitch to cock, teflon cylinder helps, also need to keep it well lubed.problem is they are metal to metal, cylinder to receiver. The VSR is a lot easier as the cylinder rides in nylon bushes. I've never tried the original fixed hop variety, with mine the hop took a lot of rounds to bed in properly. I've also never tried the SGM bb's, I've always gone for the Straight .43's. You can't beat the Thwack of a .43 to put the sh*ts up the enemy! I may try some SGM's in my VSR but I'll stick with the .43's in the APS as the hop is set sweet for them.

I'm looking forward to seeing your new VSR conversion, Are you doing anything new/different with this one?

I'm not sure really. I'm upgrading the hell out of it because the MP001 just isn't upgradeable enough to be as consistent as I want a rifle to be (basically, as good as an airsoft gun can be). The Tanaka is my new benchmark for performance ( I spent ages pumping rounds through it to bed the hop in!).

I'm on the hunt for a knackered or cheap Dboys K98, so I can rip the bolt to bits and have an authentic looking bolt like on your guns. I also plan on making the mags sit better, as my MP001 K98 doesn't feed right 100% of the time. It'll have to be good to supplant my Tanaka. I think the real advantage of the VSR is that I can plonk a scope on it without breaking the bank. I've been looking for turret mounts for the Tanaka but they are obscenely expensive, even for repros.

Yep, Turret mounts are stupid money. Wish these chinese manufacturers would stop messing about with stupid little ZF41's and make a nice repro ZF39 with Turret mounts for a decent price! I can dream...

My VSR's feeding was a bit hit and miss initally, but sincer I fitted the original mag release, it feeds flawlessly. It was working sweet when I used it Sat morning at D-Day +2 until it suddenly wouldnt cock. I thought I had broken a sear so I just put it back in the car. turned out I just didn't put enough loctite on the Bearing spring guide I had fitted and the shaft had come unscrewed :slap:

I finally got the vsr internals into the stock I used for the MP001 conversion. I have to say, it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be! I'm not going to spend ages on the cosmetics of this, I just want a reliable, consistent rifle that looks 90% right, which is why I've spent more money and time on upgrades than cosmetics. I've run out of dremel sanding drums and cutting discs as well!

Edit - Just found out that the VSR mags are slightly narrower than MP001 mags! S**t! Now I have to work out how to rework the magwell cutout so the mag fits snugly and feeds properly. Oh well, these things are sent to try us. I've consoled myself by modifying another MP40 hop to take standard hop rubbers and aeg barrels and upgrading the gearbox.

cheers Del! :) My next challenge is to try to get a matching blued steel effect on the receiver. I cant blue it as its aluminium (plus a bit of epoxy putty in places) so its going to have to be a paint effect. Also going to have to paint the cocking handle knob as it seems to be stainless steel and the bluing wont take to that either.
