Google ads can be as cheap or expensive as you like.

You set a budget and when the cash runs out the ad stops being shown - until you reallocate funds.

However, to work effectively the campaign needs to be closely monitored - the whole point about web advertising is that it can both be tightly targeted and statistically validated.

On this level you can't be specific on where the ads are being shown but as with the Google search it works on relevant keywords, hence the legwork in getting it set up right in the first place.

So, is it worth trying - might be. Is worth the cash outlay - might be.

I think we'd want the standard version so we could have one of your cool banner images and make sure we get it spammed like crazy on ASCUK in order to piss 'em off...

I guess it really depends on the finances available... which I have no idea about.

I run adword schemes for others. The cost can be pennies especially as we are in a niche market because the Google scheme works on a bidding principle.

You only get charged per click rather than per view. Ads normally appear by word relevance but it is possible to target a particular site which works on a cost per thousand impressions rather than per click - i.e. as advert in itself rather than luring to a site elsewhere.

I don't think it's a good idea to use it as a spamming tool as it costs money and the host site will just block it, tempting though it is!

Cheapest form of advertising is our sigs though - Fluffy doesn't seem to have spotted those!
