I locked Joss thread about medals in off topic.
I was a bit peed of ;-

1 it's been done to death , and recently , so it's a bit of laziness when he could have had a say on the other thread two weeks ago
2 theres nothing new to add really, I think we all have a view on it that varies
3 we all know the cocks who probably were wearing those medals , I didn't want to give BigassUK another platform to stand on / get involved in another slagging of the Nobby13 orwhatever they call themselves these day

Hope you didn't all see it as Guy heavy handedness again , I did edit the post later to explain why and hopefully make it a bit lighter .

Nope, exactly what I would have done.

Out of interest, who the hell was wearing a Purple Heart at Gulch?

I agree...

Did you add a link to the previous thread?

No idea on who was wearing medals/ribbons/bars - not something I'd take any notice of.

I agree and think i'd have done the same Guy but feel perhaps we should have a 'cia recommend that players do not wear medal for gallantry' somewhere on the site.

I think we all agree that wearing legally wearable medals that folk shed blood for is a bit off.

Its got to be Dog Co hasnt it?

I don't agree! And I certainly don't agree with hypocrisy.
It can be very easy to get tight-arsed about this - its a bunch of lads dressing up for the weekend. I can't stand all this 'honouring the dead' malarkey which is mostly hollow words and neither do I put soldiers on a pedestal, which some seem to do. I don't 'rate' them any higher than nurses, firemen or indeed the lollypop lady.

No, with Dave on this.

A Purple Heart is a bit of a weird one to wear and a bit 'twattish', but in my eyes it's no different to bling on the German uniforms. Christ, I met people in Germany last week who had some of those awards, but COULDN'T wear them!!

Personally I don't wear any bling as I think it's a bit pointless to spend money on.

Just let people get on with whatever they want to do and moderate the forum accordingly to prevent circular arguments.

I agree that it's best to keep the forum award bars as obscure as possible because this is a public forum, but we can't start dictating what people wear in the privacy of their own home; or at a private game. It's up to them.

Aye, its never been an issue at CiA games, to start laying down such rules would only make it an issue.

No I agree, we don't need a rule for everything , the "don't be a cock" covers it . The more rules we make the more people will forget that one principal because we will be thinking for them instead. It's doesn't need it , the cocks we have come across get the message very quickly , and generally fuck off elsewhere.

Also since it's come up , personally think all this bollox about "honouring the dead" is just that...... bollox .
Honouring the dead is doing charity work for the Red Poppy Appeal, or Leonard Cheshire or Help for Heros .

Running around in pretend uniforms , with toy / de ac guns is at best a history lesson for kids, but for my money really about being a kid again and playing soldiers with your mates. I wouldn't say this on open forum, but felt it could do with stating here so we all know where I stand .

PS I'm glad we all agreed that the thread was pointless .

Well it's true... not sure why it shouldn't be said in the open?

It's slightly different when you actually meet veterans though. Sometimes they do appreciate that you're keeping the memory of what they did alive. (Others would rather forget) Whether by doing that it's honouring them I really doubt it.

It would provoke to much argument , and again there's no right answer , so we don't need a debate . I know ex services who find the whole thing really distasteful ( my parents included there) I'm sure there's people to whom it provokes memories for as well.

It was more to confirm that my view is the same as CW and HS's .

Whilst I agree entirely with those statements, I do think it's important to make as much of an effort as possible to look the part in photos that are posted publicly; especially if you are purporting to reenact AND attending public events.. Hence my comments about Dog Coy waaaaaay back.

Well, I suppose its one thing 'honouring the dead', its quite another 'disrespecting the dead' - a subtle distinction maybe, but one that seems to pass Dog Company by...
