Here is a short video of a 30 cal I am making or is it that I have made according to the state of the law today!
It's made out of 3mm thick mild steel that cost about

That looks awesome, mate - well done indeed.
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
You brave bugger , I'd have made it from Aluminium. Cracking work so far !
It looks better in blued steel though the first one I made was painted and it was a total drag.
I has taken about 2 days up to now if you look at the video I used a angle grinder to cut the plate for the second side the orange side plate was a smaller piece of steel I had laying about.
I am not sure what mag system to use on it, an M14 mag will still fit in under it but an electric M249 system is going to be best fitted into a 7.62 ammo box.
Anyone know a cheap electric mag I can butcher?
I have made a few of these 30cals in the past but this will be the first decent airsoft version.

I hope you make it full weight for those Yanks to lug around! One with the gun, one with the tripod!

The video and photo is 2 days work.
I now have put 4 days into it and have fixed the barrel jacket on and oil blued it all.
Hacksawing the metal isn't so bad with a decent 18TPI blade and a good vice.
The weight will be about 1/4 to 1/3 that of the real thing but I could put lead weights in for realism
Any thoughts on an electric mag lads?
Here are some ideas:-

Here is an interesting picture!

Some new pictures.
If you look at the AGM mag you can see a hole over the centre of the loading gear and a hexagonal hole in the gear centre which could be perfect for a motor drive.
So the answer could be to fix this on the end of a 7.62 ammo box, have the motor in the ammo box and cut a hole between the mid section of the mag and the ammo box so a 3000 bb hopper can connect through to it.

Quite right that would look better but I don't think the ammo box is wide enough for the mag to fit across its width so I would have to fit it at right angles to the gun.
The other point is that unlike some systems I want the manual loading wheel to still be available in case of motor or battery failure.
From memory I think the 7.62 box is about 80mm wide and the mag about 23mm so that gives me only 57mm for the motor.
I am mainly looking to mount this on my jeep so a cartridge catching bag could be under the gun which could hide any ugly bits.
Having said that the bag may look ugly
Maybe I should cut up a smaller high cap for the motor part Thompson etc, but the M14 already has the hex hole in it.

I can not get my email at the moment as I am in work.
Maybe for speed I should just get this and strip it down for now.

As the nozzle is brass I can solder an adaption on to it.
The question is how many BB's can it hold as standard and is it like a magazine in that it has some pressure in the feed pipe after the motor is turned off.
I have just rang the shop selling this loader and they hold 450 BB's and it is the profile of a M16 mag but 4 X thicker and he thinks it could work.
So it would fit the 7.62 box and a switch could be mounted external, and then increase the hopper size.
I can get these boxes for

The width of the 30cal receiver case is 50mm and you can see the mag is much wider, probably 80

Here are some new pictures it's taken me one month to get this far just working week ends.
I'm rushing some of it a bit to get it done, I should have riveted 5 dummy rivets into the plate under the trigger section but for speed I have just put some blob welds on. They should look ok when I blue them at least from 10ft away.
I think the ammo feed system is going to need a speed controller fitting so that I can make the ammo feed into the gun at the same speed it fires them.
I will have to work out a PWM CCT for one like the one here http://liverdyne.50megs.com/photo4.html but it was made for a 12v supply so will have to use IC's with a 5v rating as the motor in the ammo box is only 6v and I don't want to find a 12v battery to fit in it.
Having said that a small alarm battery should do but you can get them in 6V as well.
The loader fits perfect into a 7.62 ammo box by the way with plenty of room for an extra ammo tray and batteries.

Looking mighty fine !
Looking nice!

Here is a speed controller at Maplins for anyone wanting to make a ammo box system.

So is it now illegal for me to make an other 30cal now?
I seem to remember Yith saying there were some ammendments for airsofters and maybe re-enactors.

that is looking mighty fine! As regards the VCR act there's a long thread on that subject on the WW2 reenactors forum-however if in doubt ask the local firearms licensing people-there should not be a problem however worth asking. I'm guessing that you'll be doing something similar for your Tetrarch project but BESAfied? 'The Gunner' has a BESA deac for sale at the mo....(plus all sorts of other bits). I had another thunk about the main gun for your Tetrarch-what about an extra long M203 equivalent device? Use those gas grenades or alternatively have some kind of breechloaded device that can project biodegradeable BB grenades/smoke grenades etc? Just a thought.

If you mean buy a BESA de-act and use it as a template thats ok, but if you are sugesting using that and a donor gun then you would be re-activating it and that is very very naughty, 15 years if you get caught

That would be ilegal under the delivery of explosives act.

The RIF part of the act doesn't come into effect until october, at the earliest... But really nobody knows what is going to happen. Right now it is still legal to make RIFs.
I'v just been told that all new airsoft guns will be over 1J and theifore governed by the air rifle and not RIF part of the law.
ahem ridey better dig self and Oddball out of potential bother....hummm what I meant is that the website in question has a BESA for sale and I guess that you could use bits of a real one-not reactivate the thing- just like scootnshoot use bits of Bren/sten/jimpy/etc....
and as for the breech loader idea surely all I ended up describing really was something akin to a potato gun? Or maybe a firework tube? Surely thats ok?
I'v just been told that all new airsoft guns will be over 1J and theifore governed by the air rifle and not RIF part of the law.
By who?
What has this info come from?
Its the first I've heard and sounds like a load of bull.
