Ok I am new to these forums, WW2 airsoft, and airsoft in general it is my birthday today and i have been waiting to buy an AEG for a while, after lotts of chosing and deciding i ended up in my old love, WW2, i decided the TM M1A1 over the AGM MP40 because of reliability and of the warrenty you get from Zeroone, but now my birthday is here and im not very good at spending large ammounts of money, especially on whats esentially a toy gun lol.
so here is my choice should i upgrade the TM M1A1 with an M100 Spring and metal bushings or leave it as stock and what would the differences be in a skirmish.
also what battery should I buy, atm im going for a Tornado GP8.4v Large Type NiMH 3700mAh Capacity Battery is this ok for the M1A1.
but mainly i want to know about the spring option is it worth upgrading it or shall i leave it as stock. thx.
Happy birthday and welcome to the WW2 forum
Ah the Thompson - my first AEG and still my favourite!
Battery is fine and will last you all day, probably all weekend. (Consider getting it from here: http://www.component-Shop.co.uk to save some cash )
Upgrade? Hmmm, that is a 'depends' question. Depends on where you are playing and who you will be playing against. If you don't plan on getting any other guns for a year (hah!) then you may be happier upgrading now rather than later - just make sure the fps doesn't exceed 328 + 5% for maximum site compatibility.
Oh, finally, the Thompson has a weakness you should know about - the barrel is prone to snapping due to a design fault. You can buy a
I wouldn't bother upgrading at all.
Leave the gun as is and it will perform just fine.
Chomley is right about the barrel snapping after some use.
If it does then you can get a kit from Headshot on this forum for
Here's a link with details of a fix so the barrel doesn't break;

Even closer to home, our very own Headshot has the solution:

Personally, all i'd do would be to fit a tighter barrel and a V-hop rubber, then just use it till it breaks. The Version 6 gearbox has a good reputation for reliability as it is, and is an excellent performer (second highest ROF of any Marui AEG) as standard.
An AEG running at 290 FPS with a well sorted Hop-up rubber/Barrel combination will outrange many a 328 FPS gun where the owner hasnt bothered optimising the Hop-up/barrel combination.

Yeah, wouldn't bother upgrading.
In most cases fire and manoeuvre and good teamwork are much more effective than sitting behind a tree trying to out-range people.
Nice to see I don't even need to market my own goods now!
Cheers

Used one for 4 years, upgraded it with a M100 Spring and Systema internals after 2 years.
Barrelfix from HS after 2 years. External Barrel will break faster if you use a sling.
The gun broke 6 months after I sold it (teeth on the piston worn out).
The TM Thompson is a great all-round gun, though some people will complain about the ergonomics. I've never been bothered by it though.
Good luck,
Rick

Ok i wont upgrade it il use supirior tactics against my frieinds 450 FPS AWP it will save me some money so i can buy STALKER lol annyway about the barrel fixing kit il probably buy one but i know nothing about metal work.
Ah the joys of starting out in airsoft. Welcome !
Most people on entering the sport get interested in guns, and then in upgrading them (sometimes to the point of obsession ). Most of the people on this forum have been playing for a while and all will tell you much the same thing, a massively upgraded gun is not going to make you better at airsoft . It's fun doing it, it's a good way to waste money , and I suppose all of us have had a go at some stage or other. A massively upgraded gun with some daft FPS will only make you unpopular with other players and especially with site owners, as being on the recieving end of such things hurts .
What will improve your airsofting is
1 Learning to shoot accurately , so you can shoot 20 BBs to hit a target instead of 2000 ( cheaper too! )
2 Learning some basic infantry skills , fire and movement discipline , fieldcraft, camouflage and concealment
3 Practice ie plays lots at different places
4 Possibly look to join an existing team who will have all the help and info you need.
That all aside, buy a Thompson use it until it breaks , but by then you'll have lots of other ones, as they tend to pile up
Yea cool, im now 17 and soon will be driving, im trying to convince my friends to buy guns for the summer but there all buying Guitar amps or computer stuff so have little money, i got about four of us generaly interested but were all broke, so when i start driving il attend these events.
Apparently JG one of the better chinese manufacturers are producing a thompson, and i have to say judging frome all the other chinese stuff around at the moment it wont be a bad buy. My mp40 came to about 100 quid shipped from hong kong and it caame with a (albeit rubbish) battery. I imagine the Thompson will be in the same ballpark.

Thompsons are great, best use it & abuse it till somthing breaks, then throw some upgrade parts in, all you need are steel bushings & a 1 joule spring, I only use a 1900 mah batt in mine & that lasts all day, the chances are the Jing Gong thompson will come boxed with hi cap, charger & battery
Steve.D
i use a 3700 nimi battry, and get 2 or 3 game days b4 a recharge.
(no memory problems like ni cad either)
my thompsons pushing 340 with m100 spring and metal bushes.
great range , great ROF , great gun.
though low caps are hard to change twice the time of the mp 40
450 hi caps are availible, so if you cant afford loads of mags, you only need 1 hi cap.
ive fell on mine twice, and no damage, but i think ive been VERY lucky,
also once its been draged of some rocks and concrete, the wood effect will look a bit better, with some "distress"
id give it 10/10, for an AEG , my best gun ever , mind you ive only owned about 11 or 12. But my new mp 40s my favorite

I have added a poll so can u please vote your opinion and post a reason for your opinion, i want to get this right as its my first ever AEG and i want to get as good a gun as i can get.
thx
Don't bother.
The gun is fine without the upgrade. All it will do is slow down the rate of fire, use more battery power and reduce the life of the internals.
Hello mate, welcome to airsoft and WW2.
Dont upgrade it. When/ If the bushes go then get some replacments, and I dont see why they cant be upgaded but if you start to upgrade the gun as soon as you get it it will eat into your cash very quickly.
An upgraded barrel wil not make any noticable difference at the velocity of a thompson but again if it does need replacing in the futer their is no reason to spend a bit more money and put a slightly better barrel in.
One thing I will say about the thompson is get the barrel fix off headshot as soon as you can as the barrel is prone to snaping with the standard configuration, and at
Wait till it breaks then upgrade it, the tight barrel may make a slight diffrence but for the price its hardly worth it, a M100 spring will fit right in but may throw you over the limit with legal power, I use the PDI 120 springs which is like a 1 joule, the version 6 gearbox is the easiest to take apart of all the TM models, the 450 round hi caps work well, u only need one, I must admit I like it more than the mp40

All Marui guns (with the exception of the Uzi - just DONT get me started on that damn thing) are well balanced systems. Like all such systems, when you upgrade one part, then you exacerbate a weekness elsewhere. Put an M100 in it, then thats a lot more stress on other components, the gears for example.
Leave it as standard until it goes "bang", then upgrade it afterwards. If you must modify it, then a tighter barrel and an HS barrel fix would do it

Just ordered it from Zerooneairsoft.co.uk with an A2 Pro 240v/12v Fast/Trickle/DischargerCharger, a GP 8.4V 3700mAh Batterey, she M1A1 Stock gun and a 420rnd HICAP mag.
Hope it gets here soon cant wait to give it a go.
