But will it work in a Sten?
I'm a hero with coward's legs.
I doubt it as most hicaps require the mag to be vertical and the sten mag will be in sideways.
But will it work in a Sten?
Due to the internal design and the principles of a hi-caps functionality, it won't work with a STEN due to having to have the mag' horizontal, rather than vertical. You might get a few rounds through when the mag is full, but you'll run a very big risk of miss feeding and sudden unexpected detentioning of the hi-cap spring which will lead to definite no feeding.

Yes, as above its not really feasible for hi caps with the sten unless you employ the system used on the P90 horizontal magazines ie a pusher which forces the BBs into the winding mechanism, and I doubt thats either possible or practical in the smaller MP40 / Sten mags. (Anyone tried? )

Been given one of these recently and they certainly do feed much better when fitted with stronger ribbon spring.
I used a ribbon spring from an M14 hi cap. The ribbon seems to be made from a thicker metal than the Uzi one so I cut about half of it away before fitting it and it actually end ups a shorter length than the Uzi original, but the thicker material in the M14 spring gives more tension, so you dont need as much.

No, it wont. Did you read the comments from 2009 that are just above Greedo's?
Most hi-cap mechanisms rely on gravity to feed BBs into the mechanism. That won't work on a horizontal magazine.
AFAIK, P90 hi-caps are the only horizontal example out there. They work differently, and are VERY prone to jamming.
Yep can't see an answer to Sten hicaps for the reasons mentioned above. Unless of course you fire it with the mag at at least 45 degrees below horizontal. Just think of the can of worms THAT would open with the HOP unit!

Sorry to drag up an old thread but needs must when a guy needs mags for his MP40.
In relation to the conversion, I'm a bit unsure of how to fill the converted mag. Do you fill from the feed hole (ie back down into the hipcap mechanism?) I am about to order a couple of Uzi mags and want to be 100% sure of what I'm doing. I'm sure I can complete the conversion but like to certain before I start chopping things apart
thanks

No, due to the ratchet mechanism, it's very bad practice to force BBs back down the feed tube of a high-cap mag. Most high-cap mags have a small hatch which can be opened to pour BBs into the high-cap's reservoir.

Got it sorted. I misread the OP's first comments. If I am correct, he temporarily lifts the mech out of the mag housing to fill the bb's
Read this with great interest, already bought King arms 110 rnd mags, but did do a quick conversion on a src mp40 mag to fit my agm mp40, pulled it apart turned round all the guts, a little bit of "fettling" on re fit, now have hi cap mag on hand,.....don't like it much, lots of "wheelie winding" prefer the 110's.
Nice guide!
I'm on repairing an old AGM Mp40 and want to cold blue the receiver and two magazine shells.
The upper magazine cap won't get off... how did you make it??? I won't broke it.
Thanx!

OK! I removed the buttom plate, and using a metall saw blade removed the upper cup,

When I made mine many years ago, I used to push on the feed wheel to lift up the mag internals. This created enough clearance to feed BBs in and if you use rugged glue, aluminium tubing and care, the mag will not break.
I don't think that the Uzi mag tops will be of any use - mine weren't. I'd planned to dremel a hole in the mag that would fit the end of a speed loader in but never got around to it. I figured that if I drilled down into the back of the mag at 45d it would create enough of a lip to stop BBs leaking out in-game.
After all this time it looks like a manufacturer has finally brought out a 300 round hicap for the AGM MP40 .... https://www.weekendwarriorsairsoft.co.uk/index.php?_route_=ufc-mp40-hi-cap-magazine-300rds-agm-sandt-m12a
