Hello
I was looking at replacing the gearbox in my stg44 for a more updated one, my spring, trigger contacts and piston are knackered and I saw a complete v2 8mm gearbox with good internals for £44 including(most importantly) a micro switch trigger. The box is made by nuprol
I know the stg44 has a v2 gearbox but it has a custom motor bracket, this may seem like a silly question but has anyone done it or would know if it would fit? I love this rif and want to bring it into the 21st century a bit lol
Cheers
Seb
Hi Seb,
You could rebuild your original box for a little cheaper than the nuprol box you mention, and wire in a simple mosfet, such as a Gates nano hard. This would protect your trigger switch from ever burning out again, plus it has braking facility which is better for your internals in the gearbox, and if you want to run lipo batteries there is also a facility for shut down when the battery gets too low in charge.
The nuprol gear box is not the bonus you think it will be, while the micro switches idea is a better way, they still burn out eventually ( a mosfet cures this also) they also have a quick change spring facility which is a good idea too. The main problem with the nuprol boxes are that they use a different type of cutoff lever because of the micro switch fitting. When this wears out, and it surely will, they are not available anywhere. I have run 10 of these nuprol gearboxes ( in M4’s) in hire guns and I thought they were a great little cheap gun until the wear out problems started. We can only get the cutoff levers from nuprol directly, and they have never got many in stock. Now I know your gun will probably not get the punishment that hire guns get, but for us it’s a good indicator for the type of gun and parts to stand the test.
Other little problems with nuprol boxes, spring guide collapse, weak bevel gears, and nozzle wear. The best gear box we have found is a specna.
On your original question, yes it will fit in stg 44 the motor adapter fits straight on any v2 gearbox.
Cheers for the reply
Really? I thought it would cost alot more than £44 haha. Ah ok cheers for the head ups about then I will have a look at those specna boxes! Really shane about the nuprol boxes, guess they have to be cheap for a reason
I’ve been on eBay myself today, searching for some parts, so just as a quick run through on what you would probably want to revive your gearbox, would be, new spring, can be bought for as little as £5.99 made by SHS, good quality, new piston all metal teeth for £6.99, alloy cyl head, £8.50, alloy nozzle, £6.15, shim pack £3.45, trigger switch, £5.97. Total £37.05.
OK you have to build it, but you’ll probably do a better job than the factory worker that throws one together in Asia. You can of course spend more if you wish, but there’s probably nothing wrong with your original gears, tappet bar, etc. That you already have.
You get a better air seal from the alloy head and nozzle, so I would recommend them. Even if you’ve not put one of these together before there’s a thousand and one You Tube vid’s to watch on the subject. Also the smug satisfaction that you’ve done a proper job!
Sorry to go off the subject of the original posting but i have a army force quick change spring and microswitch gear box,and this has the same prob where you loose semi auto due the a silly plastic spring loaded block wearing away against a sharp metal pin on the cut off lever.
You can buy this product from tiger111 hk link below

Hope that helps you.
On the original subject on my built from scratch guns i think you cant go wrong with a cyma gearbox,i get them from Tiger111,They can easily run for 40k plus rounds without issue.Get one with the black painted shell and brass cylinder, although they do seem to come with steel cylinders sometimes now they come with m110 springs which will give you 360-370 fps with perfect air seal, the later most likely you wont have in a AGM gun so you with get a site legal 350fps or lower. The only thing i do to them is add extra shims to the gears just to make sure, dont shim to tight that will make it worse and blow your gears.I know it does not have the modern features you are after but its dependable.
If the Nuprol is a re-brand of the Army Force qd tranform one then you will loose semi auto in less than 5k shots ,I did run it without a mosfet for a while but added one later to be safe the micro switches dont handle the high current generaly speaking. Also it came with a clear polycarbonate piston that sheared the pick up tooth quickly so that was shite also.I added a Guarder metal clinder head which works well with the stock nozzle, perfect fit so no nozzle wobble or air leaks.I put a marui piston in they are great, light and run forever. Its not a bad gearbox now i do have the spare trigger but have not got around to fitting it.

By the time you have paid postage and been skanked by paypal the if you see the product is $50 when it arrives you will have paid £50 as a rough guide,on tiger111 you can put the product in your cart and then find out the postage options easily.
I would go along with that, Cyma do make a good tough gearbox, but it probably won't be quick release Spring type, jing gong (jg) also make a strong gearbox too.
Have just found on one of the Polish sites, Taiwan gun, or gunfire can't remember which, but they are selling cutoff levers and trigger parts for the nuprol gearboxes! So much for nuprol uk telling me that they don't supply anyone with parts! Perhaps they get them straight from the factory.
