Hi fellas, I was fighting with the Allies at San Marino and couldn't help but feel somewhat outgunned by Jerry. Dave_C and I were thinking about what it would take to build an Airsoft Mortar to fire grenades... We're experienced airgunners and have a few ideas of where to start but if anyone has any pointers it'd be great to have some help!

Propulsion ideas:
Idea 1: Mainspring from an air rifle
Idea 2: PCP buddy bottle

Thoughts?
Cheers!
Dom

This topic have been covered repeatedly over the past years - issues to consider first are legality and usability (would an organiser allow you to use the thing!). A good deal of games, where mortars are of any use, will provide players with them anyway or at the very least consider gameplay first not player's competitive advantage.

Do have a search through the forum as it has all been done before and so will save reinventing the wheel...

We are building a PIAT, but didn't have it finished in time for San Marino, however that end part gave me the idea to use the PIAT as a "mortar launcher" of some kind, it would only need some kind of 'cup' to launch a grenade...

Again as Chommers said do a search of the forums for this as its been covered but be specially aware of the legality factor at what your going to build as it may come to a point that what you have is a improvised firearm which will let you in for a world of hurt.

I built a Brit 2" mortar, it fires 2-part pyro from TLSFX.

Pretty much all event organisers will supply this sort of thing for players if it's required, and it's unlikely they'll let you use something that's home made, as it were, without their say-so.

If in doubt stick to firing nerf footballs or something similar.

If you're a site owner, give 'em a ring, they might only be available to organisers.

Like I said before, unless you're running a site, or working with a site owner, it's probably not worth your while to build/buy one just yet, as most won't let you use it off the bat. Ignoring all of the obvious safety concerns, heavy pyro weapons can unbalance scenarios and spoil organiser's hard work to provide challenging games.

Unless that is, you're planning on building two, and handing one, along with a bunch of ammo to the opposition at every event you attend?

that would be an option if they weren't £55 for a box of 10 :( . I suppose the other option is a pump-up compressed air mortar as the ammo would be cheap, but I have been avoiding this because you dont get the satisfaction or the realistic look of a pyro mortar.

How much force do the mk 5 thunder flashes actually have? if they had enough I could make a shell with one mk5 and bbs on top to be launched. question is would they be powerfull enough?

I'm not sure you should even be contemplating firing projectiles using pyrotechnics, sounds like a shotgun to me. What you propose would make more sense using a moscart, but why use a mortar at that sort of range, unless you think a shower of BBs is a good idea?

This is bordering on the illegal and I feel this thread should be curtailed

I have a pyro mortar, we can use them at gunman Airsoft games but we allways ask josh if it's ok to bring along and use and we buy the pyro from Josh
