Its more or less what I did to make mine. But I used the top part of the shell of the 190rnd mag rather than making something out of plasticard for the top bit.
I also used the metal vertical slider from the 190rnd mag shell rather than the plastic one on the drum mag. I cut the plastic one off. The mag goes in vertically rather than horizontally like a proper drum mag.
I drilled a couple of holes in the plastic outer to screw the 190rnd mech in using the holes in the mech itself. These screws are not visible when the mag is in place and hold it in better than just having it glued in place.
As for cutting other bits of the drum mag off, this was done incrementally untl it fitted. Note that as a result my mag will only fit my 1928 thompson and not a vanilla Marui M1A1 or probably any other 1928 modded gun.
I keep meaning to make a photo guide to this, i've got another drum and 190 rd mag to make one from.
I'll try and sort something out in the near future, but Yith's is pretty much exactly the same method as mine!
once you take the drum mag and 190rnd hicap apart, it's pretty self-evident what you need to do to get it working.
not a vanilla Marui M1A1
You probably implied this but, The real steel drum magazines were only to fit the 1921 and 1928 models. The M1A1 did not have the side grooves to fit drum magazines. So fitting a drum mag to a M1A1 would be just plain wrong.
Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated
