Along with the Enfield’s I’m building, there’s a couple of Carcano’s in the mix, started shaping one today, hopefully by this time next week, should have a few more stocks coming to shape.
What do you use to taper the bodies?
Here’s a pic of the weapon I use, this is an old black and decker 4 1/2 inch dia grinder, nowadays they are 14 mm threaded 115mm dia, but there’s loads of these wood shaping blades on eBay, so you’ll find something to fit.
They need a bit of practice as they are quite fierce to use in the beginning. When the shape is close I use a wood rasp/file to flatten it out, then 40 grit, to 80 grit, to 120 grit production paper.
Done a bit more on shaping the stocks, 2 Carcano’s, 1 L42a1, and a shorty SMLE, abit more sanding to get the trigger height right, then make top woods.
Carcano replicas moved up to metalwork stage today, butt plates and front sling bands made and fitted.
Mag/ trigger guards done, charge handles next.
Finished making forward mount charge handles for the two Carcanos, new design, might not work out, but I’ll give them some try out time before I decide.
Carcanos now finished, but can’t seem to put up anymore pics.
