After seeing others conversions of the m14 to a garand I thought about the lovely m1 carbine which im quite fond of. I've been pouring over parts diagrams and parts sites to get a rough handle on what needs doing and it seems fairly simple.(plus I dont quite have the funds to make my own garand just yet)
Remove the front gas block of the m14. cut the stock down a bit and dremel it at the front to fit the bayonet band. cut the outer barrel down a bit. cut back the heatshield and fit a top handguard and bayonet band to the stock. and fit a front sight.
Should be fairly simple. The only minor discrepancy will be the butt end of the stock which wont have the hole through it like alot of them had. that and the m14 stocks a bit larger.
The only problem i can see is how much the stock can be dremmeld down at the front to fit the bayonet band, as on the m1 carbine it tapers down to the barrel to fit the band. Not sure how much that'll be possible with the m14 stock, trying to find front end pictures at the moment of it stripped down.
So what do you all think? Not a massivly ambitious project I know but a good start before I try something harder or have the funds to have a garand. Plus it'll require no real massive work etc

the mag would be quite dificult to convert, evrything else should be doable.
Let me know if you get a green light cos id be interested aswell.

well I have sourced the parts on ebay as well as have a friend over there who can source them from sellers that wont send to the UK so in theory its all a go.
just havent commited to buying the chinese m14 yet as im not 100% sure if it'll turn out ok. I probably will though hehe
Yes converting the mags would be interesting so initially I'd probably not bother as getting the handguard/stock to match wood colour wise would be hard enough. eventually though the mags would get converted as it'd be great to round the gun off properly

The main problem is that they are a completely different size, The carbine, in comparison, is tiny.
The other option is to try ands squeeze a gearbox inside an M1 Carbine. This however is also buggered because they are tiny, even the MP7 gearbox is to big. I'll try and get a comparison pic up.

The gentleman above is 100% correct. The receiver of the M1 carbine is simply too small to get an M14 gearbox in.

When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
that was one of my first thoughts when I considered this

I found that picture whilst searching for parts breakdowns. the action itself is quite large compared to the m1 but the stock doesnt look do different other than its obvious length difference. the Length I'd solve anyway with a quick chop.
I realise the guns not going to be totally accurate but being as there are no real options for a m1 at the moment is it worth a shot?

I dont thinkso mate. Id say the M2 carbine is quite a goer, for period airsofting as long as it is left on semi, if you use full auto the mag is too small.

still mulling it over. anyone else want to toss their 2 pence in? If I dont go ahead with it might just have to save up for a sten or lee enfield from warren but would be nice to have something unusual that not many others make

OK, my honest opinion is this - the two weapons are totally different. The M14 is a direct descendent of the Garand; the only real difference is that it has a box mag, and is capable of full auto fire. Hence, it is easy to convert an M14 to a Garand. However, the M1 Carbine is a completely different weapon, and it would take some considerable skill to fashion one out of an M14.

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
If you've got your heart set on an M1 you could always get one of the Marushin M1s or there new M2 which actualy does semi/full auto. The last I heard was that after their Mp40 they are ment to be going back and doing a semi auto version of the M1.
Theres talk of a GBB M1 coming out soon....
It came out about 3 months ago, an 8mm maruzen M2 carbine, with a GBB action. As has allready been staten.

not a huge fan of gas guns in general TBH. but it does seem this is a no go project. shame. Had a sten in the pipeline but thats fallen through so pondering what next. Have an mp40 on the way from RSOV and a chinese thompsons due soon but fancy something a bit more unusual. might be a case of wait a while and get something from warren perhaps

Yeah, I know what you mean, warm weather only, but if you want a gbb M1, then its out now.
Im afraid that their isnt much option if you want a GBB, unless you get it so thet the M1 body is just a dummy with somthing else underneath.
