Managed to get the confidence to chisel out the wood on my folding stock and put my new 8mm M1 carbine inside it, took about 4 hours worth of delicate work, but it fits in a dream, and fits in the leg scabbard too!
Waiting on a response from a guy from the US who has a repro flip sight (early war style) and the barrel clamp/sling swivel combo (without the bayonet lug (early war)) about whether I can get hold of them.

yeah he's prolly applied the lessons he learned doing his whilst doing yours 
I think it's more to do with the fact that his is a Marui and mines a JG Skorp...that's why the FPS are different.
