hi all
after my 1st attempt at the g43 did not get finished, i have decided to have another go but take a different route.
the base gun is an a&k svd so it will be a single shot springer. i know this is not historically correct but it will hopefully be a fieldable gun and will look good in my rack lol. i have made a makeshift locap mag using the svd mag inside a cut down mg13 mag, as i have no g43 mags at the moment and the locap mag is too long for a g43 mag. i may be able to butcher a hicap to get it in the g43 mag but the real mags are quite expensive compared to the mg13 ones (which are only £8 each) so they will do for now. still a fair bit to do, the action cover needs finishing which will be integrated to the scope rail, and i need a zf4 scope mount to finish the rail. also need to source a front band and make a longer trigger, and im going to make the triggerguard as they are rediculously expensive and quite hard to get. a few pics of my progress.

cheers, jay.

Very nice. Good to see you back. :good:

WRT a hicap: Have you looked at the "Vietnam 20-round" M16 hicaps? They're shorter than normal M16/m4 mags.

cheers fella.
have looked at several mags, and the g&g sr25 50 rnd mags are probably the best to use. i used one on my 1st project and it fits into a g43 mag very well,
but i do really want to stick with the svd mags just to make life easier for mag alignment etc.
took some pics with the action installed and it is very easy to cock even with a m140 spring in it. this is due to the return spring not installed, but there lies another problem. i have to take off the top of the spring guide block where the return spring guide screws in, and i would really like some sort of return action to make sure there is a good seal when action is closed. there is next to no room anywhere else to put this in so will have to have a think about it.

cheers, jay.

Is the bolt carrier (the bit you're holding in the second pic) attached to the part that needs to be held forward?

If so, on the real steel G43, a rod extends from the gas cylinder in the front to push that back when the gun fires. On the real steel, that rod's not connected to the bolt carrier, but I was thinking that you might be able to use a rod like that, but connected to the bolt carrier, with a return spring in the upper hand guard area where the cylinder would be.

ah yeah fella i get what you are saying. run a rod through the front part of the receiver (in between the rear sight and the outer barrel), with a spring on one end and screwed into the bolt carrier on the other. it will be a bit of a squeeze but worth looking into......cheers.

Jay, with regards to your return spring....would it be feasable to run a rod through the rearsight base, flange on the very front of it, with a spring between it and the front of the rearsight, with the rear end of the rod being attached to the front of the bolt?

*edit* - had a read through, beaten to it! ;)

yes mate it is certainly a doable plan, and i think the maximum rod size i can use due to the amount of room is 6mm. The only problem then is the rod will be covering the hop adjustment screw.

If you can use a rod that big, could you put a hole through it in the right place to allow access to the hop adjust screw?

i could but can imagine it will be a pain to adjust the hop while holding the bolt back under tension.

It needn't be slap bang above the hop unit?, it could sit below the level of the cylinder and off to one side? The SVD's hop unit is pretty simple, you'd be able to shave one side of it down to fit a rod around it no problem.

Depending of the thickness of the rod, drill a hole down through it to line up with the adjustment screw?

Other suggestion would be to put the hop unit on the mill and run a channel across the top of the hop adjustment, and fit a screw with a shallow knurled head to adjust it?

Where there's a will there's a way. Sure you'll sort it.
