Hi,

I was just wondering if it were possible to use Tanaka's M1897 Trench gun in a GI loadout. I don't know if any of these made it into GI hands. If so it would be damn helpful as it's such a mean looking piece of gear. The fact that it's also a shotty adds to it's appeal

Cheers!

Shotguns are banned by the Geneva convention, and were during WW2.

Plus, the Tanaka trench gun is a shite airsoft gun, by all accounts... :(

Seriously? No shotties!? What did they do in CQB? Bash people with the Garand's butt? (I'm venting, sorry :slap: don't bother answering that.) Shite huh? Ah well... Thanks for the help mate!

Pretty much, mate. Grenades and SMGs only, as far as I know. There's not a whole lot of CQB in WW2 games anyway, and ironically, K98s and Garands are a bit too powerful at close range for airsoft...

Fair enough then. On another note (now my shotgun plan's scuppered), is the M1 Garand really any use? I've read the review and the clip system sounds like a bugger to get used to, what with all the clip hunting later...
If not, what about the M1 Carbine?

are you looking for a playable weapon, rather than a 'pimp' weapon?

most airsoft US forces mainstream weapons are M1A1 or M14(M1 Garand wannabees), with or without kit add-ons

check out the threads - you'll find info :)

Sort of a boundary...
What is considered "pimp" anyhow? And I have been looking, there's just alot to look through and I'm getting sleep withdrawal symptoms  When you say M1A1 I take it you mean a Thompson? I want to avoid the SMG route, it's evil, EVIL I SAY! (Bad experience with Marui MP5s)

Ah a true rifleman - outstanding.

drop past the US forum - they can give you more info, but if u have an M-14, there is a least one kit that can be bought, a conversion to an M1 :D

... you can't see them where you are, but a choir of angels just appeared. Cheers for that mate! Now I really do have to sleep, I think those angels might just be a hallucination

Cheers!

twas me with one at wotan

heres the thread with the info on what theatres they were used

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=427&hilit=shotgun

heres a snippet from the thread

been doing some more reading using more obscure search terms. seems side by sides were often used by resistance and home guard types. And the winchester pumps were used mainly in the pacific however some did make it to ETO. mainly they were used by MP's and people guarding things in general. however some(very very few) made it to the front lines where it seemed they were used to help clear hedgerows and for their psycological factor when assaulting certain positions.

they were also used by behind lines oss agents as they helped disorientate the enemy due to large noise etc

so seems they were used though sparingly.

also heres the thread on how I made mine

If not, what about the M1 Carbine?

I've had one for a while now, and it first I hated it but persevered for the sake of appearances. Recently, though, I took mine to bits and fixed the screws in place with nail polish, and now it works fine. It's a lot of hassle to get working correctly - and reliably - but I think it's worth it for the effect.
As for the clips, I just catch mine as they ping out, and I've only lost two in a year. Another bugbear is the gas reservoir being very small, only worth two or three before you have to fill. Still, I'll use mine for a bit more until I have to retire her.
The M1 carbine is a wee bit more reliable, from what I gather. I haven't skirmished mine yet, but in test firing it's pretty sound, and powerful.

have you ever had it working right Kav? :P yet to see it last a whole day without various cussing :P

and yea the m1 carbine is very reliable from what I've used mine so far.

to be honest the shotgun I linked above is fine for cqb but not open long distance games. you'd be better making it out of the 870 springer thats available for that as it can be tuned for long range

I hate to break this to you guys but the marines in the pacific used the trench gun ALOT though it never saw that much action in Europe and the geneva convention is not really in effect it also reads that you may not fire on medics paratroopers may not shoot while in the air and may not be shot at in the air......its all done in war there is no rules. also Americans are using shotguns in iraq right now for room and hole clearing.

although the trench gun is underpowered i think it is still awesome and would be great for a WWII collection
