the nearer i get to finishing this rifle the more tiny details i remember and the further away the end seems.did a bit more work on the stock mounting and trigger guard assembly today, added a couple of little plates either side of the trigger guard and a pin that goes through that would have been the rear trigger guard mounting ,a fake mag release catch ,it has no purpose as the mag is well held in by the bolt stopper but it should be there.also re sculpted the filler around the stock mount.finished and flowed in the cocking handle and extension piece.both pieces are in paint now, should be able to bring them in later or tomorrow to re assemble and letter stamp, will probably need to re paint after stamping as some of the lettering will be in steel and part in epoxy putty and it might be a little tricky if any letters cross the boundary of the two materials, may have fun there but i'll burn that bridge as i come to it.

still yet to do are, 1 the sight, needs a way of locking it up and down, there's no space to use the original method but i think i have a plan,2 curve and veneer the bottom of two more mag's,3 fit the tight bore barrel and upgrade hop rubber,4 do all the letter stamping ,5 make the telescopic sight mount, 6 replace a few screws and paint others

This bit was Chris's idea, as i like to adjust the hop with an allen key and grub screw i have in the past made a tool that fits in the stock, Chris's idea was to incorporate the allen key into the oil bottle that is stored in the stock on the real rifle. this was bone by cutting the oil'er spoon short and welding on a section of allen key, i'd have preferred to just press the allen key into the lid after removing the oil'er spoon however the stem of the spoon is larger so i'd have had to glue it into the over large hole, i have little faith in glue as a permanent fix so welding was a better option.

this is the rifle re assembled .

Holy crap, this is looking great! Awesome work. I'd love to try something similar one day as I love the whole process, really.

not a lot to see but it's still progressing, replacing screws ,fitting upgrade parts, shaping and veneering magazines but pretty much all that's left is to make the locking system for the rear sight so it stay's in place up and down and the telescopic sight mount.did some of the letter stamping the other day as well .it's amazing how many little details that you end up with at the end of these projects, thing's that you put off till the finishing touches while you work on the bigger thing's.

right ,the sight locking system now made, ready and works well , last mag was out of spec size wise compared to the other two so needed quite a bit of sanding to get a nice fit and removal and is now having the veneer glue setting .what this all means is that other than making the telescopic sight mount the rifle is finished, but until i drill and tap the sight mount screw holes into the breech i can't finalize the bluing of the breech or hammer in a drift pin on the sight mount .so tomorrow i start the sight mount ,it's to be as close as possible to the original with the exception of using modern sight rings ,so there will be a fitting that screws onto the front of the breech and into witch one of two finger screws will go ,the other finger screw will go into the rear of the breech ,thus it will be easy to fit the sight in the field and along with the easy bolt removal system the rifle could be converted from 350 fps to 500 fps with scope in as little as five minutes.

a few detail's of the sight locking system.hard to explain but it uses a pin (Axel) with a drift pin through it ,on one side of the support bracket there is a groove vertically that once the pin is inserted the drift pin is half sunk into ,the sight has a cross groove let into it around the axel hole ,there is a spring on the other side of the axel pushing the sight onto the exposed edge of the drift pin so that the cross groove locks it in the two positions.not too clear but hopefully the pictures will help.

finally here is the lettering on the side of the breech, i had a slight slip on one letter witch is gut wrenching as i can't do it again but in my defence the lettering on a lot of rifles is a bit wonky in the real world .

yes the scope was requested but i have made it as close to the real item as poss, no ris rails in sight.

this was the intended look or as close as poss with the scope supplied, when its finished it should look period and a correct scope fitted at later date.

Bah, some people have no taste... ;)

I will stick to non-scoped rifles... There's something more tangible about iron sights.

it has fully functioning iron sights as well, part of the design brief was for both sub 350 fps battle rifle and easy change to 500 fps sniper rifle with scope , my only concern is to do that well. on a personal note i see no need in real terms for a scope on an airsoft sniper rifle as the range is so little but there is something about looking down a scope that put's you in a mind set and that is what all we do is about ,trying to get into a mind set.

well with the sight finished its just a bit of re painting, the first paint i try'd just did not bond to ally so next is Krylon spray paint, hopefully it should be better .then its a little testing with the other spring to check the power is up in the sniper range, oh and Chris has found a black bolt cylinder to replace the chrome one.the scope can be remover with just two big finger screws ,it leaves a small bracket at the front that can be left on until in a secure location .
