Seriously thinking of picking one of these up but can one of you nice people answer me a few questions:

Skirmishable (e.g. durable, accurate)?
Green gas or HFC only?
FPS on either of the above
Spare parts availability and general reliability in the field?
Any known problems I need to account for?

Cheers - HB.

Maybe a bit offtopic, but if I were you I'd consider buying Warren's M1 Carbine.

Is it even available yet?

No - and I know that Warrens workmanship is top drawer but I kinda like my toys in my hands within a couple of weeks. Don't have the funds or the patience for a custom job.

M2s are readily available from a host of Asian stores: RedWolf and eHobbies had them in stock earlier.

Anyone able to answer the original questions?

Sgt.Ash has one. It seemed to perform pretty well at Ariel. I think Webby or Spiers may have one as well. Perhaps a PM to one of them, or a post on the U.S forces sub forum may yield some results for you?

Sgt Ash bought our one.

Poor accuracy and loss of semi-auto seem to be pretty common with these and ours certainly suffered from both when we got it second hand from Gunman (he did tell me).

However, they're both simply and easily fixed.

Take it apart and literally just tighten all the screws. You'll need an allen key. That's all I had to do to fix semi-auto.

Also, do Flattrajectory's mod which is removing the secondary fixed hop at the muzzle end of the inner barrel. It is just a band of rubber around the barrel that the designers, in a moment of madness, thought would improve accuracy. It doesn't. You'll notice a big improvement once you've got rid of it.

The gun is relatively easy to take apart and, more importantly, re-assemble. I'm a bit of a noob at diy armaments and I managed both of the above with no problem.

It's a smashing little gun once you get it running nicely though. I sold it simply because I'm not keen on the hassle of gas guns.

For more info, do a search for any of Flattrajectory's posts, he's the Man for all stuff carbine related.

One more thing - make sure you can source some spare magazines before taking the plunge. They seemed to be pretty scarce a while back.

I had an M2 carbine until yesterday when i sold it. Im the same as B&A, great gun if you can get it working. But i found it can be a bit unreiable in cooler weather. The drop off on power was pretty quick.

Harbourne blue,
If you have a look on ww2aa boards they may have my original revue of the m2 carbine, ( it may be in non-ww2 gun reviews as it was a latecomer).
I have the 8mm blowback Export version, which will take greengas. If you buy the standard version it will only take 134a. This is pretty useless in the UK. You must buy the Export version.
The carbine is a nicely made piece but as has been said earlier there are quality control issues with loose screws and the like. Having owned one for about 18 months now I would say it is more of a collectors piece rather than skirmishable. Mainly due to the low capacity magazines ( 17 rounds of 8mm) and the cost of spare mags. ( £45 if you can get `em). Also the 8mm with green gas on a warm day is too hot for most sites and I would not thank you if you shot me with one on exposed flesh.
However also consider the other ( rarer) 6mm version and non-blowback version.

Hope this helps.
