I want to get you guys' opinion on this. I was thinking it would be a decent counts as gun until a decent and affordable actual MG42 aeg comes out, (can't find or afford an ultima or shoei version) the m60 was pretty much the american ripoff of the MG42 with a slower rof and with ligther weight wasn't it? Anyone done this? Would it be allowed at any of you guys' games?
Interesting thought.
I don't remember seeing if anyone has tried modifying the front end to make it look more MG42-like.
i was planning on just using it as is, maybe some camo net or scrim around it, but it probably would make a good base gun for someone with the know how and talent to modify it.
Well, would it not depend on what look-a-like rules are being used at the event you are attending ?

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
You'd need to make a pretty big effort to make an M60 look like a WW2 weapon. That depends on what version of the M60 it is as well. If it's got a front grip and modern flash hider, it'll look totally out of place.
Basically, a support weapon has to have a bipod and the weapon must be "deployed", ie, the bipod down and the firer in the prone position, or with the weapon resting on something. This helps to balance the added firepower/higher ammo limits, against size, weight and unwieldiness.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
true, but i don't attend many events here because the only WWII ones are a state over, so it's mainly just me and about 10 or 15 friends that just get permission from the cops and go play in some woods or someone's property if they allow us to. I was just mainly asking to get some opinions on it.

definitely the original vietnam one from a&k, would also be used the way an MG42 was, no running around and shoulder firing it. Kinda thinking of using one those noveske noise flash hiders so it'll be loud as hell.
Actually, I don't know what one looks like, so I can't comment. Do you have a picture ?

Bring me the gun of Rambo.

To be honest, that looks nothing like an MG42 at all.

The top cover does. ![]()
i have seen an M249 ( in my day it was called a minimi, SAW) jigged up with a plastic champagne flute as a flash eliminator and a curved mag stuck to the top pass as a bren gun,, so, as long as you try to disguise it, why not?*
*( i am sure the mods on here can drag up the pic )
besides,,, if thats all you have, then use it. let the purists worry about authenticity, you have fun.
Now a picture of an ersatz bren would be interesting - champers flute - fabulous!
I'm a hero with coward's legs.

I'd say if it was just you and your mates, and you scrimmed it and only used it deployed, then yes go ahead and use it. If nothing else you can practise troops moving forward with the MG at the fore and other riflemen supporting it, carrying spare ammo etc. It wont really pass in a full on ww2 game unless the looks alike rules allow it.

I have an M249 dressed up with a 30 calibre barrel jacket and an Mg42 mag drum and a few other mods, doesn't look too bad at skirmishing distance,it was my first attempt at customizing a gun,I'll post a pic when I get a chance

To be honest, that looks nothing like an MG42 at all.
It does look rather like an FG42 though, being as that's what the M60 was designed from.

I thought it was a combination of the best bits from both FG42 and MG42, with some others thrown in.
Perhaps intended to be an LMG version of the FG42, using some of the tech off the MG42
