yes, i think it was designed after both the FG and MG 42's. It's really the only logical airsoft gun to use for a MG42 imo, without tracking down and paying out the ass for a shoei or ultima, or even more difficultly custom building one.
Maybe though we can hope that AGM will continue with their proposed MG42 aeg this year or next.
Or better yet just make an MG3 so it could be used for modern airsofters and WW2 ones alike.
WIth the option of after market wood furniture of course.
Mmmmmh I can almost smell the flecktarn now! Hehe

At "my games" my position on "looks-like weapons" is that you shouldn't buy them for use in my games, but they're acceptable if you haven't got any proper WW2 weapons and already own a looks-like alternative. Even a WW2-era weapon from the opposite side of the conflict beats modern looks-like weapons.
You can have great games with just the SMG's from the various nations and even if all-SMG squads are a bit unrealistic it still looks a lot better than resorting to modern weapons. And as you probably know the SMG's are very affordable.

A very good point well made Snake, CiA concur.

as you in the states and gun laws are more relaxed why not try the way an aquaintance of mine made his `42
get a real steel mg42 or 53
300 to 400 pounds for a cheap one (dont know how much US dollars)
angle grid the bottom off the gun from trigger mech to under the top cover hinge. removing all working parts and the whole trigger mech.
remove all the gubbins from inside the top cover.
remove the real barrel and replace it with 22mm copper pipe one
take an airsoft ak47, remove all outside furniture so you are left with a fully working barrel gearbox magazine houseing and pistol grip
insert this inside the body of the real steel `42 , slideing the 6mm airsoft barrel inside the 22mm copper pipe, tape at one end to prevent wobble , the ak pistol grip replaces the real steel one
lock in place with pins
and there it is, as real as it gets mg 42, you can feed it either with 250 round ak midcaps (a belt of ammo in the gun hides this), or have an airsoft boxmag inside an mg42 ammo tin and connect to the base of the gun using this, (the feed tube can be taped to the rounds that go into the gun) thus hiding the feed tube
it looks very effective fron 6 feet away, its only when you hold the gun you see the work (underneath)
"Take that you rotton helping of strawberry flan!"
Joseph Porta to "strawberrys and cream", in the sven hassel book ,ogpu prison
.....even if all-SMG squads are a bit unrealistic it still looks a lot better than resorting to modern weapons. And as you probably know the SMG's are very affordable.
I disagree. I've been saying since day one that 20 people with M14s would look a lot better, and the game would play a lot better, than 20 people all sporting historically accurate smgs.
I am aware, however, that I am in a minority (of one) on this point, so everyone can feel free to ignore this post as usual.
I'm with you on that B&A, always have been. More rifles = more fire & manouvure and less
spray and pray.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

Heh, you are right Barry but I think Snake was just making a general point. We all, generally speaking, include the M14 as an acceptable looks-like (and therefore a WW2 weapon) and so a purchase with a view to WW2 skirmishing is sensible. Buying an AK47 because it looks a bit like an MP44 isn't a good idea since you might as well buy an MP44 anyway.
And that a squad of Thompson/MP40-toting players looks better than a squad of M60/AK47 is undeniable. So, general rule - if you are getting into WW2 and about to buy a gun then make sure its a WW2 gun since there is little reason not to. It's a bit of a further stretch to limit games to bolt action/semi-auto with a sprinkling of SMG/MGs - we are just about achieving it now here in the UK but its been a long while coming!

i already own an stg44, sten, thompson, kar98k (d-boys one, gonna get converted next month), BAR (whenever it is actually send to me), two mp40's, and i plan on buying a ppsh 41 and converted garand sometime this year. the point of buying the m60 for me is so that when we play we can do it in a style more like how the germans actually did it, the rest of us supporting the machine gunner etc.
LOL, so that's all your answers sorted then. No, it doesn't look like an MG42. Yes, you could cover it in scrim and pretend its an MG42 (hell, you could do that with other kit you have, no need to buy an inappropriate gun to cover up). Does it matter if you have an inappropriate gun - no, because you think it is fine and will be playing with your pals. Frankly, given your personal WW2 arsenal I'd save my cash for something right rather than buy something wrong and sell it later.
