I'm trying to use my thompson without the stock any help on where i could i fit a small type battery

why not mod the Thompson sling to carry the battery?

Thats not that bad of an idea, but where would you attach the sling to if theres no stock?

i was thinking of making a battery that would fit in the receiver behind the gearbox

I've always fancied doing something like that after seeing a picture of one somewhere. Also, I'm 5'9", and the Tommy is a bit of a beast.

ya i got the idea from the book filthy thirteen i guess alot of paratroopers did it. the sling idea is good i might have to try that

The slings are quite small and light, might be another idea to duct-tape the battery to the receiver if you don't get on with the sling.

that is what im going to do today so i can see how it works but eventually i'd like a more permanent solution or i'll just stick the stock back on there

On the US ww2 forum someone did a 1928 with a detachable butt and he put the batteries in the drum mag, also if you're thinking of fitting some in the reciever area try Li-Po batteries as they're much smaller than the usual airsoft ones, again on the US ww2 forum someone built a Mk2 sten and fitted Li-Po batteriees into the receiver tube.
