Perhaps this would be better in the Weapons section?

Perhaps he meant that the people who carry lugers are clots?

you are all sooooo harsh

Im sure people with better or more established views will post later however.
I have a we luger, a hfc broom handle mauser, and a we 1911 they all have little niggles but over all are good. But not one of them is better than my bog standard Marui m92f.

So when doing a pistol game where im more intrested in being effective rarther than looking good out comes the Marui, no it doesnt look right, but a back up pistol that works is far more useful than a bit of bling. If i had the spare cash id buy the Marui 1911

the weapons reference states http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/pages/kit-guns.html
'Any pistol with standard magazines'.

However when it comes to main weapons...... i must admit i think more of a fellow player with a ww2 aeg

...do i have to use WW2 ones

No, you don't have to.
For most people pistols don't actually get used in a game and so are only there as a backup (in which anything would be fine) or for 'completeness' in which case you obviously have something appropriate to the period.
Exceptional games where pistols are prevalent like yesterday's Die Glocke then it would be a bit rubbish to run around with a Glock as if it were an open day.

Otherwise, chaps using a bolt action and firing above the AEG limit will need a pistol else they will be stuffed if too close to engage. Since this becomes an essential item then I would have thought it would make sense to have an appropriate period side arm.

And of course if you are buying a new pistol to use in a WW2 game then it would be a bit bonkers to buy a modern piece when so much very good period kit is available.

I was writing something similar to the above here here! But I was in a bad mood and it started to sound a little it argumentative so I deleted it haha.

Bottom line, if you're thinking about it seriously get yourself a period GBB pistol like a WE or Bell 1911. They're both brilliant.

Unless you're playing German. Then the Maruzen P38's and PPK's, and the chinese p08 are all equally good, skirmishable guns.

Personally I swear by my Marushin P38 NBB. very reliable, powerful and very economical on gas. can usually shoot 4-5 mags worth on 1 gas fill. :good:

Surely in airsoft terms there's not much difference between a 1911 and a more modern pistol, so unless you need an M9, Glock, etc. for a modern impression, a WW2 gun would be fine. In some cases, such as regular skirmishing, the WW2 gun would have added "cool factor" because it would be less common.

For my part, the only reason I would choose an M9 over a 1911 would be for a Stargate loadout...

when i used to open day, my fave load out was my brit dpm. my old issue windproof, assualt vest, jungle hat, tropical sweat rag scarfe, R85/SA80, and as a side arm,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, colt model 1911. they are just so iconic.

now it has its proper place, US issue holster, or for brit 37 patt holster and lanyard.

I meant to add this in before, buying a 1911 you are buying a gun that has been issued to armed forces for nearly 100 years and still going strong. WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War 1 & 2 & Afghanistan. You could portray any soldier from then til now and look right in place with a Colt 45. . You can't go wrong really!

You just can't go wrong with a Colt 1911. It does for everything from Great War doughboy to Grand Theft Auto gangsta :good:

EDIT: like what Spiers said but with less words (there's a war on you know).
