I'm about 60% finished on this now. Before I go any further, I need to say that a HUGE amount of the credit goes to my Dad (a fabricator/welder and former carpenter) for his help on the build and my Uncle (who lives in the Czech Republic) for a lot of the little parts. At the moment, it's all clamped up, waiting for glue to dry and tomorrow, I will take more photos as I go. I'll have the gearbox in and the barrel shroud on by then.

Looking forward to this. Do you, your dad and your uncle do commisions?
I swear by all that's holy, I will never make another PPSH41 again as long as I live. It's been a pain in the arse to be honest and if I weren't so stubborn, I'd have binned it ages ago and bought one of the kits from that guy over on the US WW2 forums.
I had to buy a de-ac to use for patterns (and sold it on for a nice profit as well!), I've had to pay for steel fabrication, an M14 gearbox, the list is endless. Safe to say, this will definitely be a one off.

Made quite good progress today, such good progress that I didn't take any pictures as we went! We got the gearbox in and the stock bonded, the two halves of the barrel shroud and receiver welded together and ground off, fitted the outer barrel and sights, front sling hook, modified the inner barrel and hop up and got the magazine cutouts done and the donor magazine chopped up and partially glued in place. Got a bit of painting to do tonight. I'm hoping that tomorrow, we can work out a system for adjusting the hop and actually test firing the gun.

Magazine completed! I deliberately left the feed pipe unpainted, so I can see the rounds feeding up it. Just need to tinker with the capacity now. I don't want it to hold any more that 300 rounds.

Didn't get to test fire today unfortunately (I didn't charge any batteries!). However, managed to get a lot of filling, sanding and painting done instead. It's really taking shape now and I can't wait to test it out.

That's beginning to take shape, and I can't wait to see it finished!
always liked the ppsh nice job hide look foward to seeing it
theres nowt so Permanent as temporary
Thats looking superb, can`t wait to see the finished article and hear what it fires like.
Can't do any work on it today or tomorrow, because my Dad has buggered off on a booze and baccy run to Belgium and has the key to his shed in his pocket! Instead, I've satisfied myself with ordering a couple of batteries for it from component shop instead!

Which metal part do you mean? I got the magazine well from my uncle in Czech Republic, it was basically in "relic" condition and needed a lot of cleaning up, he also sent me front and rear sights as well.. The barrel shroud, well, I cheated! I had it made for me in 2 pieces by my Dad and someone he works with. I gave them a set of plans and the de-ac I had, and they did me an almost 100% accurate copy. I wanted it it metal because it's so much more realistic. It would have been a LOT easier to do it in wood, plastic or fibreglass.

Impressive work there Heide. Congrats to you, your dad, and your uncle on such a nice project!

Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Thanks Kermit. I just hope it all works when it goes together! I could never have done this one with the basic tools at my disposal that I used for for my K98's, I've been very reliant on other people, their skills and their tools, I've been more "project manager" than builder. I'll give the PPSH a run at an open day in April, where it should scare a few of the locals! I'll temporarily increase the mag' capacity for that as well.
I'm off to visit my Uncle in April and I'm going to be on the hunt for bits for future projects while I'm there. The wife will love that! A house full of MG42 and DP28 parts!

Did some more work on it today, since I go back to work tomorrow and won't be able to touch it for a few days. Mind you, my Dad will most likely finish the varnishing without me! We test fired it with no HOP and the mag' feeds fine and the ROF is pretty good as well. Just need to figure out a HOP adjustment system now and do a bit of tweaking and detail work (I can'y help myself, I'm a modeller!). Excuse the "shiny" finish, the varnish was still wet.

Jesus Christ, that's beautiful! You and yours have done a truly magnificent job there, Heide. If only I had the time and expertise.
You can play as osttruppen now, too...
excellent effort Heide
Thanks guys. It's still a bit "ropey" looking but my Dads' shed isn't THAT well equipped! Most of the finishing touches I'll look after with milliput, araldite, my dremel and a can or five of gunmetal and black paint. It'll never be 100% accurate but I don't care, I've always wanted an airsoft PPSH41 and now I have one! I cannot wait to use it! I've really got the custom gun bug and I can see myself making quite a few others (a sten and an MG34 are on the list!).
