Looks good! Bet it's a damned sight lighter than mine as well! Looking forward to seeing the finished result.

I wanted to do it out of metal but since I do not have access to the tools I once had access to.
PVC seemed a logical choice especially once I found square tubing.

Absolutely nothing wrong with using PVC. I used a hell of a lot of it to build the mortar for the Husky game. In fact, structurally, the only thing that's metal is the tube itself, and the nuts and bolts that hold it together.

It's a cheap material, it can be solvent (or heat welded) it can be bent to shape when heated up, you can paint it (thanks to Krylon Fusion)

Couple of pics to show what you can do with PVC.-- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available --

Zbear, that looks awesome. It inspires me to have a go at one myself. Where did you get the full size plans from? Having a full size drawing would give me a good start with a project!

Thanks for the info, may I ask why do you want to use P90 internals? Is it because of the top loading? and also what length of inner barrel do you intend to use? Something like a PSG1?

Great idea to use full size drawings as a template for the barrel shroud. I ended up having to use the "extra long" PSG1 barrel, it's a perfect fit in my MG42, it comes up just inside the flash hider. What sort of problems did you have modifying the AK hop unit? I've done a couple myself and it's not too difficult as long as you're careful. If you need any pointers on that, just let me know.

Out of curiosity, how much is this costing to make, as I have always said to myself that I will get an MG42, but now wonder if its worth building one rather than buying the once thats is coming out soon for a hefty amount.

MG-34 is the 'soon-to-be-released' German LMG - if it ever comes out.

As for custom MG's - there's loads of idea's posted here and also on our 'sister' site( http://ww2aa.proboards45.com/index.cgi ) of German and other country's LMG's

Cost-wise.... I guess it depends on how you want it to finally look. I know attention to detail with what was bought, to how it should look has meant additional funding, to fit better cosmetic pieces

Experience priceless

That's the most important/rewarding part of doing custom work

I can't wait to see the next lot of progression pic's on the development of your MG :good:

Yes it will be there.
It will be the trial by fire.
I just hope the rof is going to be where I want it to be using the LiPo batteries I have

what ROF are you aiming for ?

Nice job Zbear :good:

I had a thought how you could make one out of steel see this video.

Just a thought for anyone that wants a go.
You can saw down the length of a unistrut with a hacksaw or reciprocating electric saw or angle grind the side off.
A mig welder would be needed to weld it all up.

You did great with what you had. :good:

Aren't your rules 328 fps for full auto?

so when you downgrade it, fps will increase for a bit ;)

btw I didn't noticed in your earlier post that you mentioned where is battery situated, so where is it?

Z-bear the end result is magnificent, well done that man! Although having seen that you tube video and having a mate who is a welder I'm going to attepmt a build using unistrut as a frame. I'm getting the pics you showed me blown up at the printer tomorrow and I've got a Kart EBR that isnt doing anything in my gun rack :)
Your work has inspired me to go out and have a go :good:

I have been thinking of some other things we could adapt in steel.
A good portion of the barrel is 50mm box then it widens to 60mm nearer to the receiver.

So I have been thinking of 50mm wiring trunking or travelling ladder track both of which I can get hold of free 8)
However I would have to cut the holes out which was the big + with the unistrut idea but unistrut is only 42mm wide however with some thought on the cuts and clever welding you could get round that problem.

Here are some nice pictures.
http://brpguns.com/mg42semi.htm

Correction only one side of the barrel jacket widens to 60mm the other side stays at 50mm. I also think ladder track has a more curved corner to it like the real thing so will get some and put a photo up.
See here how the 50mm is more constant on one side.

OK here is a picture with some dimensions.

Oddball, thanks for posting those pics and link. The guy I'm getting to do the welding is coming over for dinner tomorrow evening so I've got plenty to show him now :good:
