Recently repaired one with the same problem: gear axle broke. Which is a surprise because SRC gears usually have good reviews. Anyway, i replaced them with the much more reliable JG gears. Here's the review i put up some time ago:

A friend of mine just bought one and the spur gear lost all its teeth after about ten shots, not the best techincal info to offer I know but I thought I may as well offer my 2 cents :good:

Just do the hop and barrel mod' to your AGM John. A LOT cheaper and, very effective. My AGM MP40 shoots very well with a decent barrel and hop rubber. It actually shot better than many M14 based Garands at the recent Patton Stalled game!

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

Out of interest are AGM's still the predominant MP40 on the WWII airsoft scene these days?

Pretty much, they're all but indestructible, in my experience.

I've never bothered to mod mine, I quite like the fact that my MP40 isn't the most accurate gun in the world. To me, it actually makes it more fun, and more realistic. I shouldn't be able to pick off targets that rifles could.

I agree, plus I do find my AGM MP40 pretty darn accurate for a relatively short barrel

Heh, my Google positioning magic works too - try Googling"MP40 hop mod" and we are there at 1st and 2nd positions :good:

Ah, it's been too long John, see you at a game soon - some crackers coming up this year to suit all tastes!

(Oh, and my AGM MP40 has always worked a treat, hop unmodded. Shots are a bit spread at long range but that appeals to me!)

I have the other version of the hop mod in a zip file. Pm me your email address and I'll send it on.

This is the one that doesn't require an AK hop.

That article lists 2 different lengths for the inner barrel.

:slap: If you look, the different lengths are under "parts" and "my preferred parts".

OK, but if you look at kalashnikov_kid's forum post, which I assume is the source of the article, it doesn't mention a 229mm barrel...

Hello - I'm new to both this Forum and WW2 Airsoft as a whole. I recently purchased an SRC MP40 (albeit two-toned as not UKARA registered) mainly as a wall piece and occassional 'garden plinker'. A de-ac was approaching £2k, so it was a no-brainer and the EBB function was an added attraction for someone more interested (at this stage anyway) in the aesthetics of the gun as opposed to it's Airsoft capability. Hell even a de-ac can't do that and you can no longer buy a MGC MP40 PFC firer to emulate the blowback.

After shooting it a bit in my back yard, I have had big probs with the Mosfet trigger. It stopped working completely (no power) and it took me an age to work out it had an in line fuse between the motor and trigger. Why is this not made clear in the instructions and also why is it wrapped in heat shrink, as if they expect it never to blow?? Strange! After replacing the fuse, I had another few shots and the trigger mechanism seized. I subsequently replaced the micro switch in the trigger housing and had to re-solder a couple of the wires in the Mosfet circuitry as they came off when I took it out the pistol grip. Also, getting the receiver to close after fitting the battery is a real ball ache - it won't lay flat in the battery space and has to sit 'upright'. The Tamiya connector then interferes with the closing action of the 'breech'. Anyone else had this problem???

Also, the current run of these don't appear to have the 'MP40' and 'ayf 41' markings on the top of the receiver chamber - which was very dissapointing to say the least!!. Why I wonder?? Earlier versions did I believe!?! I don't have a lot of time on my hands, but hope to perhaps get along to one or two games next year; but mainly wondered if it's worth getting the gearbox upgraded (as many seem to do) to pre-empt any future problems?? What is the failure rate for the gearboxes 'stock'?? For now it's just a wall piece - even though 50% blue (for now). Many thanks anyways! :)

Hi amoco

In my opinion.........stick it on the wall and leave it there, the src is the best looking pile of pants every created. Mine fired less than 40 rounds (BB,s) then the gear lost 5 teeth, so replaced, the mags fall out, miss feed, constantly block. I have stripped, cleaned, etc etc and it's a no go just badly designed.
Get an AGm or asg if you want an mp40 you can actual use.

Yep, I think that probably reflects a concensus of opinion - perhaps!??! Is the Asg and Agm two different guns then, or are they the same firm. I was planning on buying an Asg Sten MKII just after Xmas. Such a shame about the SRC, it is indeed a good looker. Oh well, many thanks for your input.
