The switches used in the Viva Sten are simply not designed to handle the Amps that an Airsoft gun can pull, and consequently the contacts burn out. Simple way to deal with it is to MOSFET the damn thing.

Why would you replace the battery connectors with mini Tamiya ones? They're almost as crap as the standard fit ones. Deans is the way to go.....

'Cos that's what I had in the box!

I don't really understand this MOSFET thing I'm afraid. Hope someone else works out what to do and posts up a guide, then I can copy it step by step!

The basic idea is to use the trigger switch to supply a drive voltage to the MOSFET, which completes the circuit instead of the trigger contacts.
The MOSFET drive is a MUCH lower current than the motor, so the trigger switch contacts last longer.

That's the theory. In practice, the implementation depends entirely on how the gun is wired, so someone who owns one will have to work it out..

All things MOSFET are here including guides for installation: http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/i ... pic=161764

If you google 'infected airsoft' you'll find a lovey chap who will express ship super small MOSFETs with active breaking for about $28 each all in. They're highly recommended and designed to fit where the fuse holder goes so fit the tightest of guns.

I have one going into an M14 and another headed for a FAL with semi-auto 'issues'. Wish me luck!

Just saw this, thought you might want a look:

No connection with the buyer, no ideas on quality, yadda yadda, but it's just a MOSFET, there's very little to it.

I managed to take my Sten out for a proper test fire today (along with a few other guns) and put about 500 rounds through it. It was quite windy, which made it impossible to do any proper grouping tests. The hop was a bit fiddly to get right and I had to cut down my hop nubbin a bit to get the right range of adjustment but, once set, it was very consistent. The barrel spacer I put in makes a noticable difference to accuracy as well.

I took my CYMA Thompson and AGM MP40 for comparison and my Sten has a similar range to the Thompson but is not quite as accurate, this can be put down to the much shorter barrel in the Sten, although I plan on putting a slightly longer one in which comes to the end of the outer barrel.

It outranged the MP40 and is on a par for accuracy (my MP40 has a modified hop), so it's obviously putting out more fps than the MP40. I reckon about 330-350fps by trying the coke can test. I'll chrono it this week, just to be sure.

ROF was good with the new Lipo's and I had no feed problems, using the supplied locap, agm MP40 locaps and 110 round midcaps. So, I'm even happier with it now, knowing that I won't be totally outgunned. The only problem now is that I'm itching to use it in a game, so I may have to break my open day phobia before St.Lo and Aerial.

No Enfield No4's either but I'm bringing that, as well as the Sten.
