Excellent news on the Sten's
* Drums fingers on table waiting for news of what the Stens are like *

They're nice full steel, as decribed, not hard to fix up at all .
So would be absolutely amazing if they had a hop up system my heart dropped a beat when I realised they did not have one .
After a little front end dismanteling, I found an AK hop system, but becuse it's on its side the hop system had been removed , if it was in when engaged it would have made the bbs go sideways .
After much scratching of the head I figured it out... drill a small hole in hop unit on top, put grub screw in and hey voila! hop unit works. Yith has taken the hopped unit with him to show you it's easy and works bloody well .
If anyone wants me to do theirs contact me .
Overall a lovely, very authentic piece.
cheers Jamie
i will leave it to you to do the full write up

looking forward to seeing them tomorrow night ![]()

Good job a hop won't be essential down the tunnels on Sunday. Weird though!
(Meh, I played for a whole day with my 1928 at Op Lightning with no hop and I still managed a decent Jerry count
)

1? hehe

Obviously, I'm glad the Stens are here and grateful to Jamie for sourcing them BUT, no working hop up? FFS, you'd have thought Viva could have sorted that out, considering how much they charge for their products! Normally, if I spend this much money on a "factory" gun, I'd expect it to have a working hop unit.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Perhaps its something which you guys might want to provide as feedback for them (this is how we did it,... add it to your moulds/design)

Yes, and then we can tell the buggers to send them out to those of us who acted as guinea pigs!

I like you're thinking!

Right... as Jamie says no hop up.
What needs to be done is that a small grub screw needs to be put into the hop unit like this... with the hop unit rotated.
The fps is still unknown... Jamie's chrono said around 300-320fps, but was giving error a lot. Mine was saying 420fps but also saying my MP40 was that as well, so may need fixing/caibrating.
I'm hoping Jamie's was right.
So two requests for tomorrow. Someone bring a chrono that will work down the tunnels and someone bring some grub screws.
Mine is already fixed, it's an easy job. I believe the screw that Jamie used is from the base plate of an M4.
Quick review to follow
And now the review....
I've just checked with a magnet and ALL external parts on the gun are steel, with the exception of the trigger and the aluminium band at the front. This is actually just the bit that's visible of what is effectively the breach block. The hop and barrel live in it. I'd recommend people to spray this matt black when they get theirs. It will improve the look.
The weight is good and it feels just like a real sten. They've done a good job there. The paintwork is not perfect, but isn't thick and is a nice matt. I'm sure you could blue it if you wanted... The welds look real and strong. There is some gunk on some of the welds on some of the guns.
The fake bolt is aluminium, but is also fairly substantial as far as I can see. I'm not sure how steve bent his.
The mag is a copy of the AGM Mp40 mag, but with some interesting german markings on it. There's stuff about MP41s and MP38s... dunno what that's about. I've tried proper AGM mags and the King arms mid caps and they work perfectly in the gun. This is a majorly good thing! ![]()
The only major problem is the hop unit. All they've done is put an AK hop unit (including rubber) in the gun and rotated it. THIS IS CRAP. But we have a fix that works... see above. With the fix, the gun fires nicely and sounds good. with the hop fix the range and accuracy seem good.
The battery is dinky, but seems okay... The charger seems to work in my shaver socket. (I keep looking towards the bathroom to check it's not on fire... and it's not... yet...
Am I happy... yes reasonably... I've had worse... this does work. It does bring a big grin to my face... I wanted a full steel sten mk2 and this is a pretty damn good one.
The hop unit is inexcusable though... Viva deserve a slapped hand for that.
Okay... charger update.
The charger has one of the round power connector things on it. The same as you see on a lot of electronic equipment.
It takes between 11V and 15V input. +ve in the middle of the connector.
Like the ones here:

The 2.5mm/5.5mm version
I've managed to use a power supply from an old 100Mpbs hub that I have... it's rated at 12V 500mah and seems to work...
thanks for taking the time to do the quick write up and mini test Richard
No probs!
Del, if you've got 'em or can get 'em bring some grub screws with you tomorrow. You'll like your gun more if you've done the mod.
I'll have a look and see if I have - if so, I'll bring
