Ok had my M1A1 for just ove rhalf a year now only realy used it in the last few moths but every so often at like the last 2 game i have been too about just before lunch time, suddenly the BB's will just drop and range is decreased drastically, and ajusting the hop-up doesnt sort it atall, usualy after leaving it for a bit it then works fine, it doest it compleetly at random near the end of games like before lunch i have no idea why, is the spring wearing out or somthing ? eventualy il have it upgraded with a new spring put in but atm i cant afford it.

Nah sounds normal, i usually sylicone my Hi-Cap's but not my lo-caps as they dont have gears, i also always sprey some inside the BB chamber, would make sence as mid day is usually when i start using my lo-caps so next time il sylicone them aswell.

No! Siliconning is what usually causes it..

Silicon and a hop rubber = a not working hop rubber.

Basically silicon, hardly ever, if at all, needs to be used...

Give it all a good clean. If that doesn't work then the motor is probably stuffed - I have an MP5 that did the same.

what he said. bad to put silicon in the hop chamber. only use sparingly in the mags too so theres not much transfer to the bb's

I'm not sure how a dodgy motor can make any difference to the power of the weapon... it goes completely against all logic.

BTW... I can't remember the last time I siliconed my AEGs. It must be years ago... :)

I wouldn't have thought the motor would be at fault. The symptoms being low velocity would point at the air system getting leaky or blocked. Devonshire Trooper says it still 'fires' normally, so no drop in ROF or bad sounds coming from gearbox, so we can mostly rule the mechanics out of it at this point.

Devonshire Trooper, does it happen when your using both hi-caps and lo-caps, or just hi-cap mags?

Well i have not noticed that spacificaly :| its usualy half way through the day after the end of games, so most likely i would be using Lo-Caps, i spreyed spylicone in where the BB's feed into the gun like it says in the instruction manual to insure the good feeding of BB's  , after leaving the gun for a while or decompressing the spring again it usually sorts itself out so mabe its just that the mechanism gets tired and needs a rest

The manual is wrong...

You don't need to spray silicon in magazines all the time...

Maybe once when you first get them, but after that its best not to do it at all.

Basically in general silicon is a BAD thing...

I've seen so many new players spraying tons of the stuff on their guns... its just silly. Take it from a relatively old hand at this.... It just isn't needed and does more harm than good.

Never put silicone oil near the hop unit, by saying that I would put the problem down to a dry / worn piston seal, get somew chrono readings on it, either way I recon it needs a strip down & service

Well il wait till the next game and not sylicone it at all and see how it fairs, il aslo take note of the chrono readings, i dont realy want to have to strip down the gun as i would have no idea what im doing and no idea what im trying to find or fix, just to be clear the hop chamber is where the bb's enter the gun through the magazine right ?

Eventualy im hoping to have the gun fixed and uprgraded by sending it to Zero one as i have no clue atall how to do it myself and i would probably break it.

Il give it a going over with the cleaning rod and see if i can remove and acumilated grease in the hop, but if there was a problem with the HOP would'nt it do it all the time not just near the end of games ?

Just use the gun...

The bbs will eventually clear the grease of the hop.

Dont i feel a complete and utter novice :slap: :slap: :slap:

ive always siliconed the hopchamber , then i usually fire 3 / 4 mags through afterwards to get hop working right

never siliconed my mags ,, dust and liquid, (and mag pouches are always dusty) = jam

so ill throw my silocone can in the fire then (dont try this at home)
