You're welcome.

If anyones interested I can do a how-to on fitting a PAX/2roy/King Arms M700 VSR hop rubber/barrel conversion to the 98k too. Haven't fired it extensively but it seems to work nicely so far. Will be giving it a run for its money at POW on sunday.

ive have my hands cut and face cut from stock, bog standard hire aeg`s , (admittedly used by a complete tits at 5 metres or less range)

my tanaka (totally unmodifyed) shoots at 280 fps on hfc 134a, with a .20bb that was at about 8 degrees C in the draklow tunnels, (with mag in the gun for 10 minuites before chrono)

when i used green gas, at hey wood in yorkshire , it shot at 498 fps with a .20 bb at -1 degree C (magazine taken from pants pocket and inserted in to the rifle 1 minuite before chrono)

so i assume if a game allows .350 fps max, i can use 134a,
if its 500 fps max , i can use green, or ultra, or even 134a if its a hot day

ive shot a quite a few people with my tanaka k98 now and never had a complaint. (myself being the first, i got a work colleuge to shoot me with green gas and a .25bb at 10m in the arse, and boy did it hurt! I ALWAYS test a new aeg or rifle on myself before anyone else, the reason being, i wont do to others what i cant take myself :good: )

It's a fair point that different gasses can be used to suit the site limits/conditions. The problem with that is I use propane/green in everything else, so carrying any other gas is an extra cost. Why buy pricey 134a, which is crap in most things, to run your rifle on, when it can be setup to be site and player friendly on propane(which is cheap!)?

You will get better consistency with propane/green, given you're achieving a higher more consistent pressure within the magazine.

i see what you mean, but my wife HATES guns, so i dont have time for strip downs at home, and doing it at work pisses off the boss

when shes on a night shift i may have a look inside , and a tweak

or when the boss buggers off on holiday again, i can get the armoury ... i mean workshop up and running again

Gave it a quick run at POW this afternoon, only fired 2 mags through it in anger and accounted for 7, possibly 8 enemy at range. Which isnt a bad ratio given I'm not a great fan of iron sights, and is probably a pretty similar ratio to what im achieving with my VSR. Need to learn to leave targets I can't get ;)

Initial chrono had it doing 290-300, so a quick strip of the bolt and couple of turns of the hammer tension screw, saw it chronoing consistently between 450 and 460, perfect. Set up on .4's, it was hammering the same cross spraypainted onto a tree over and over at 40-45m. VSR hop rubber and tightbore does the business. Chuffed to bits with my setup now :)

So it would be safe to say that you can buy one of these normal ones instead of the G Model and make the adjustments or would i be better spending the little extra on the newer version?

I'd buy whatever is available at a price you're happy with. The normal ones are piss-easy to downgrade.

I need to get me one of these......sometimes goes up to 40 gegrees here sometimes, wonder what the fps would be then :D

It would be rather high! I assume you're outside the UK?

989FPS - are you sure the reading wast 98.9 METRES per second?

When i test fired my mp40 first time it chronoed at what looked like 975 - needless to say I went into a mild panic as I fired it into a newish sofa? The point is barely visible in the display.

Luckily I unknowingly had the chrono set to mps.

When I first started airsofting I got a Marui G36C. The magazines seemed to jam all the time and so I decided that I needed to fix them.

This took quite a while and I had to keep trying the gun. I had a shooting range set up in the garage with a cardboard box at the end and used this for the repeated tests...

After a while I heard a cry of "STOP FIRING" from outside where my wife was washing her car. I stopped to find that I'd made quite a big dint in the garage door and paint was coming off on the outside all over the place.

Thank you Graeme for his tip on reducing the K98 power.

I have had a 98k for a few years now and have had to use lots of gasses. I spent a day at Fire support in the shop with 4 mags filled with different gasses in a 22 deg C room. Green gave me 510 to 560fps, Abbey predator 530 - 480fps and 134A giving me sub 380fps results.

Following Graeme's tip on th bolt I went out to private location I can use. I gassed the 4 mags up at home an hour before leaving with green then drove 20 mins to the location in my car which has been out inthe sun and was very warm.

I chronoed the 98k at 570 to 520. I Then proceeded with Graemes tip firing through each mag while adjusting the bolt and by the 4th Magazine that had been sat out in the sun while I was firing came to Sub 480fps (green). I had a thermo with me and the temperature was 25 Degrees celcius. Thanks to graeme I have a more relaible skirmishable 98k ( I can also get a bit more out of my mags now as less gas is expelled).

P.S. My 98k Has a KN 6.04mm tightbore barrel and the G&G M700 rubber and hop set.

How are you finding the accuracy with that now? Im curious because my friend up here says i should make a springer.

System-M could you please post up an idiot's guide with pics of Graeme's instructions. I'll happily hold my hand up and admit to being the dumbass that didn't understand it. I had the Tanaka M700 AICS and that had a very easy dial adjustable bolt but this is more loke the old PCS bolts. Whatever I'd really appreciate if you could do a pictorial guide so that numpties like me can understand and wont have to buy silly expensive 134a and still worry about it being too hot to use in summer events.

Glad this is of help! Sorry it doesn't sound very simple, but it is really when you get down to it. I would post pictures but my 98k is so heavily modified there are parts that bare little to no resembelance to the stock tanaka parts anymore, so it'd be pointless! Hopefully someone can come up with the goods though.

that would be good del, i too wouldnt attempt it without a pictorial "numptys guide"

it would be nice to be able to downgrade it for urban games :D
