using one of the godawful cybergun springer drum mags, and a TM 190 rnd Hicap, i've managed to create a drum for the Cyma Thompson.

I basically cut away the metal outer mag from the bottom of the TM hicap, and disemboweled the drum mag entirely.

No major challenges, just a lot of Dremmel-ing!

Sadly, with or without the drum, it still won't fit in the violin or viola cases i've bought. :D

It's got me wondering now - do violins come in different sizes or were the gangster's cases esp made to fit a Thompson? Or perhaps it was an urban myth dreamt up by the film industry?

I reckon its a Viola, or maybe even a Cello... though thats probably better suited to a Panzershrek!

there's a small square hole cut in the bottom of the drum, bit fiddly, but not too bad, though i might knock up a little custom speedwinder if it becomes a chore ingame.

With regard to Thompsons and Violin cases, on the 1928 version, (Thompson that is not violin case :wink: ), the butt was removable and thats how they fitted them in;

Looks great DM! :D

Would you maybe consider getting the Phoenix M1928 front end when it's released or are you going to leave it at that?

Cheers.

John. :)

yeah, i'll certainly end up getting the 1928 conversion kit when it's out. i'm just debating whether to go completely mental with the dremel and move the bolt to the top.

And to cut a 'V' shaped grove out of the centre of the cocking handle so you can aim through it :)

I'm really considering doin' this to mine now 8)
Where did you get the front grip and drum mag from?

the front grip is from IMA who i can't recommend enough http://www.ima-usa.com (good stuff, cheap prices and quick delivery) and the drum mag is from airsplat, who were a right pain is the arse to get to deliver, took ages, and charged something ridiculous for the postage, but were the only place in the states i could get to deliver.

i'm thinking about getting one of the metal PFC drums to convert that next, as mine is plastic, and i don't like plastic! :D

I have seen some metal 1s on a website where I got some inert .30cal rounds for, might have a look into that. The dremeling you mentioned on the mag, was that to remove all of the lower section of the guide on the back of the mag... it doesnt seem to be present on your pic.

Just ordered the forgrip now, 3-5 days from the US, thats exceptional.

yeah, on the hicap, the bottom portion of the guide, and the face of the mag needs to be removed flush with the internal plastic mechanism, and on the drum mag, a section needs cutting out to let the guide fit through. i was going to take pictures, but my camera battery was flat and i was on a roll with it!

I've got another drum, so once i've got another 190 round hicap, i'll make another one, and hopefully do a step-by-step guide. it's actually really easy if you're handy with the dremel, with no real problems.
