looks like WGC agree with most of us, and have removed the fire selector from the AGM/S-3/ASF MP40. Must admit, it looks a whole lot better without it!

*but*, you can still get it in-country, T&D paid with the selector already removed for 20 odd quid less than Action Hobby's are selling stock ones for....

I think you've misunderstood me. To clarify, im saying that it would cost you less in total to bring the WGC "custom" MP40 into the country - with shipping, and any applicable taxes paid than it would cost to buy the stock MP40 from the UK's only current supplier.

In theory the best place to start is getting yourself a Paypal account. A lot of the overseas places dont accept any other form of payment. You can link the paypal account to your bank account and/or a credit/debit card to fund it.

The only downside with this is that Paypal have a slightly dodgy conversion rate that is usually 0.08 - 0.10 below the actual rate. If you pay directly by card you can choose to use your cards conversion rate tho.

Also bear in mind that you may get taxed when you recieve your package. Its a hit and miss affair. Sometimes you get slapped, sometimes you dont. The best thing to do is have some cash on hand should the postie demand it on the door (although Parcelforce now send you a letter asking for funds before they will release it for delivery).

After you have set up your Paypal account, its a simple online order usually. Some sites (most of the Hong Kong ones) have you fill in and submit an order and then they then go and check postage costs and stock levels before giving you the final quote. You then pay that quote via Paypal (or not if its not to your liking). That process can take a couple of days due to time difference.

Some HK sites also offer the ability to specifiy the amount declared to customs. While in theory this could save you being taxed, if customs dont believe the amount they will open the package and charge you what they think its worth. Its another hit and miss thing. Personally I dont go less than 75% of the value. Packages often get taxed beacuse the senders put reciepts on the outside, so even if the customs declaration says gift, you will still be taxed.

Also one thing to be aware of when importing whole AEGs or Pistols is that customs may get jittery about if its real or not. There have been reports of peoples silencers going off for testing by customs! Personally I've only had one pistol questioned and in that case I had to email them stating for the record that it was under 12ft lbs of muzzel velocity (I think 1J equals about 0.8 ft lbs!). Its fairly rare nower days as customs have worked out what airsoft actually is.

Hope that helps :)

Just to get back to the fire selector bit.
These being airsoft guns and not having any spring tension removal option like the ICS M4 has, a number of us always fire 1 shot of in semi to make some atempt to remove spring tension at the end of the day.

If you remove the selector you will remove that option!

I am building a 30cal at the moment from an M14 but it will have a selector.

Having looked at the agm gun I beleive it may be possible to remove the fire selector from the outside, but still have one on the inside.

There's quite a gap between the gearbox and the receiver. Enough, I think, to attach a new fire select lever internally.

Since you have to take the whole thing apart to change the battery it would then be easy enough to change the fire selector to single shot and take a shot to decompress the spring.

That sounds ok because the Chinese MP40 has an over strong spring to make up for some of it's other short falls, well so I am told

Yeah its a bit of a ropey build. Im currently sourcing some replacement screws for the cocking handle. On some of the ones I recieved its a bit loose and the heads of the screws they've used are very worn so Im just gonna replace them.

Interesting idea about the fire selector tho. I like the cut of your jib sir :)

Oh and to repeat something someone said on the ascuk forum, apparently you can raise the mag release button by the cunning use of washers (shim size), making it more proud and easier to find.

I'm gonna sneek a look inside one of them soon as I've heard mixed reports and want to see what all the fuss is about.

I bought the WGCShop Custom MP40, am waiting for a couple of replacement parts - eg spring guide - replacing that for a metal version, some screws etc.

The gearbox is a hybrid type 3 - with way too much grease lube used - worth stripping and re-doing.

I was more than suprised with the quality compared to some of the pics i saw of 1st batch AGM's with shoddy metal work etc.

I know a guy in America and he's got 1st and 2nd batch examples and stated that the 2nd versions are better built - thankfully I have one of those.

Chronoed one today. Sits at around 322fps (average of 5 - High being 326 low being 318). I was trying to check reports of BBs flying off at odd angles after a distance (dodgy hop) but it was too windy to tell properly. Will try again tomorrow.

Accuracy wise its not too hot but I guess Im used to my M14 (with twist barrel). Its certainly not hideous tho. I did notice the odd double feed and it goes through the locaps fast (failing to use the last 2 or 3 BBs - out of the mag but just up in the tube.) but cant complain for the price.

Here is a copy of Mr Taffys Hop fix for the MP40 from ASCUK.

http://www.diggah.net/docs/Taffys_MP40_Hop_Fix.pdf

Not my work but Taffys. Good stuff tho for those that have earlier versions and/or have hop issues.
