Hi,
Have been reading various threads on your site about converting guns, I am not that skilled, I have an MP40 but that has not any range apart from CQB.
What guns would you recommend to camoflage, such as wrapping sacking strip around an Ak47 or a C33, to copy an MP44, or doing the same to a M14 to copy a K98, any advice welcome. Most airsoft K98s either fire single shot or are unavailable. Mp44 unavailable.
There must be an easy way around this problem.
Ian
the whole point of airsoft K98's is that they do fire single shot!
as for mp44's etc. if it aint available build it! several of us are

The Chinese MP40 is a fantastic gun for the money, if it's not shooting at around 300-odd fps with a decent range, then i'd suggest there might be a problem with it, i've got two and they're both great. One thing is that the original battery that comes with it is crap, buy a replacement at the first opportunity, if you haven't already.
In ww2 airsoft, we tend to play to the limitations of the original guns, so single shot weapons mean you have to make every shot count, rather than use modern uberguns and pretend they're a bit ww2-ish.
There wasn't a fully auto K98 made, so even if you converted an M14 to look like one, you'd really only be able to use it in single shot mode!
As far as conversions go, we tend to convert existing guns to make other guns that aren't currently available, like Enfields, Stens, Nagants, PPSH's ets etc, not because they're better, just because we can't buy them (yet!)
As Dieselmonkey said, there is nowt wrong with the mp40, don`t blame the weapon, adapt the tactics around it.
Full auto WW2 guns were in the main limited to submachine guns or the section light machine gun, the rest were bolt action until late in the war when the MP44 arrived or if you`re thinking of doing a US impression you could use a garand (semi auto).
Having a full auto gun isn`t going to help you that much, as most WW2 game rules state lo cap mags only, so a long burst will empty a mag in a few seconds unless you learn some fire discipline.
Off the shelf autos, you`re limited to the mp40 or thompson. Warren (shootnscoot) does a conversion kit (front end) to make a HK33 look more like an MP44 and also a kit to convert an M14 to a Garand.
Is it just me or is this thread similar to the old "what am teh bestest gun" ![]()
Thanks for the info, have bought new batts for the MP40 but not tried them out yet. I go airsofting on a standard site all 1000 round mags M16s and Aks, its hard competing, I have not been to a Cia event yet.
Ian
Ah, unfortunately no one makes hi caps for the mp40, there is a conversion using uzi mags, or you just have to grin and bear the locaps at open days ![]()
Ian, my tip is to get a load more mags. Yes, you can't stand there with your finger on the trigger for 10 seconds like the box mag boys, but if you have enough mags you can certainly get some good kills.
If you come along to one of our WW2 events, you will find the ammo limits will really work to your favour.
A much more even playing field.

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
just think how good youl feal about yourself, when you take them out with a 25rd mag ![]()

I personally hope they NEVER bring out an MP40 hicap. In fact, I'm in favour of banning ALL hicaps on smg's and only allowing hicaps on support weapons (and even then, limiting the size of said hicaps). Any idiot can spray and pray with a hicap, there is no skill involved at all except for the ability to wind it up fast. With a low or midcap, tactics actually come into play. With single shots, you can actually use fire and manouvure!
I find the AGM MP40 to be a superb gun for the money, in fact, much better value than some guns which cost 5 times more! The mags are dirt cheap as well.
(edited for poor, drunken spelling!).

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

Gotta agree with everything there, even though I`m Mr Fumble when it comes to doing rapid locap changes ![]()
As a matter of interest how many MP40 mags do you carry with you in a standard Cia battle, and reloads.
Ian
cia games are typically restricted to 600 rounds for everything except support guns

I`ve got 5 mags, the ammo limits vary, last game was 600 rounds on your person...I didn`t use half that, and my 1400mah battery lasted all weekend ![]()

Yep, I carry 7 mags for my MP40 (6 in pouches, 1 in the gun), totalling just over 350 rounds and it's more than enough. Also, since there are only locaps for the MP40, you can see exactly what someone is loaded up to, making enforcing the ammo limits very easy. Not so easy with thompson mags unfortunately.
Some players carry even less than me! Hard to believe that a single AK hicap holds almost double what, for some, takes 7!

Could not agree more.
If someone would do a cheap allied rifle (like the new Kar98k) you'd soon see the thompson hicaps disappearing too. Then an MP44 will come out and every german and his dog will be sporting one....
The mp40 is a good gun, its normaly full of nasty lithium grease that will destroy your hop rubber & piston seal, they benefit from a strip down, de grease & re build, re shim & good grease, lithium on the gears & bushings, ( fit metal bushings while you have it in bits) & silicone grease on the piston guides & piston seal, don't use the abbey grease, its too thick, out the box they should do 300 to 330 fps, you can fit a PDI 150% spring & get it around 350fps, with a hop mod, new hop rubber & tightbore barrel you can improve its acuracy too, will equal any thompson,
